The plane used in the episode where it flew out of the camp...
-An Ercoupe! Even as a kid I knew what an Ercoupe was...no doubt from all that time checking out airplane books from the library.

In the episode with the P-51, they said it had a Messerschmitt engine...so the Germans wouldn't learn the secrets of the Mustang engine.
Yes, I know what you're all thinking...it was a Merlin which the German had had for years...but repeat to yourself, "it's just a show". :D

Two other points....I have read the first and make no claims for its accuracy...
-About Bob Crane's "hobby" on the road, I've read he's wear the A-2 around town to help him get recognized and presumably, to pick up women. One article I read about his death said he was wearing during his trip to Phoenix were he was murdered.

-I saw his son was on TV, probably Entertainment Tonight (before I quit watching it, it's the lamest thing on TV now) and he was a musician of some sort. He had his dad's "50 mission crush" cap, one of the few items he had from his father.

BTW: I think they used the same film of the guy bailing out of the P51 in an episode of "Green Acres". In it, Oliver recounts how he met Lisa during the war. She hid him from the Germans after he bailed out.
A running gag through the episode was her saying that he got shot down.
He kept insisting..."I DID NOT GET SHOT DOWN!" in his trademark way of becoming exasperated.

So did the son inherit his dads drumming ability? Crane was probably one of the top three drummers in the world.

How about the episode where Hogan & Klink go to England to steal a P-51. They are allowed to take it but they run out of gas or something and they bail out. The P-51 was "played around with" for intelligence purposes so the Germans could not get any secrets.

Does anybody know what episode or season of the series this was? I'd buy that season's DVD set just to see that episode again (thirty years later!)

I thought that Oliver was shown flying and or bailing out of a P-38 ?

Green Acres - I recall Oliver flew a P-38. The era of great shows. They couldn't make them like this again.

Anyone remember the one where they put the barracks on a hinge so they could hide a tank inside?

I stand corrected. I thought it could have been a P-38...but for some reason the Mustang footage came to mind.
Haven't seen either episode in many, many years.

I've seen a lot of H.H. through the years. I've seen the P-51 episode only 3 times while other episodes are shown more frequently. The P-51 episode is one of my favorite. I like when Klink is in England and is impressed by the line up of P-51s. The other episode I enjoy is the fake flight in a B-25 with the B-25 inside a building. The 1st shot of the B-25 is shown outside. Most of the fuselage is there from what I recall. All small warbird stuff but still interesting for a comedy show.
