Lynn...
Down in the San Antonio area there was a P51 project that was owned by Bruce Morehouse... think it has been sold. The "flyable" P51 is Miss Marylin 2... but dont think it will fly anytime soon since it has the engine pickeled....

NOTE - alot of the museums and aircraft mentioned in this thread are spread out ALL OVER Texas! Just a few of them are in the DFW area!

Here is a picture of the Mig in Forney, TX (which is about 15-20 miles east of Dallas). Antique business that owns it is called DeRidders.

I couldnt find a data plate to get the serial number... not sure if it is a 15 or a 17.

Dan, I came across the other day a picture of Bruce's Mustang restored and flying. He had several and one was up at Grayson County being restored some years back. I drove around many times looking for this guy. The story I heard that the owner of Miss Marylyn brought it for his son (4yrs old) to have later.

Lynn,

I met Mr. Morehouse a time or two because I use to work for his partner on one of the Mustangs. Just worked as a mechanics helper out at NW Regional Airport (52F). Anyway... the only two Mustangs I knew he had were...

44-73147 - which is the one he had a partner on. I did alittle work on the tailcone. This one went up to Grayson Co. and the fuselage was rebuilt stock. He traded the wrecked wings to have the fuselage rebuilt. When purchased by Tony Banta it was converted to a TF. Now listed for sale.

44-73343 - is the other one I knew he had. If I remember right this one was recently sold.

Thats the bit of Texas Mustang history I know...

Interesting. I tracked down the owner's company here in SA a few months back in order to see if I could get some pictures for a project. They said that they had it in a hangar and that indicated that they weren't wanting word to get out about it and that no I couldn't get pictures! Seemed somewhat suprised that someone in town even knew about it.

On the other hand a P-51 owner in Hondo seemed most agreeable to the idea, if I could get out there one of these days.

As far as the stuff I mentioned before, the story I heard was that some guy around had two P-51s pickled in crates in his garage and wouldn't let go of them for anything. Haven't had time to check further.

Ryan, the P-51 @ Hondo, was that the one at the EAA show? If so, he is based in Uvalde, Texas. The P-51 I like to know about is the one that they were going to use as a parts pattern across the pond and the deal fell through. The Mustang was sold to some one in San Antonio?? Any info?

If I am not mistaken, Mr. Alain Capel from France, was involved in the plans to purchase that Mustang (Former Guatemalan Mustang) and to use it as pattern for the production of new Mustangs somewhere in eastern Europe, but the project fell through ($$$ ??) probably three or four years ago.

I corresponded a little with Mr. Capel, who is a really nice guy, and as of late have lost touch with him.

The Mustang in question, still in the Guatemalan AF's cammo pattern last worn by the F-51s over there, was last reported by none other than Brad Pilgrim, at the Ezzell (sp?) facility in Breckenridge, TX. I have some photos of it, but I would like to get permission from Brad first, before I send them to you.

Tulio, I was told that is was sold and shipped to San Antonio from Breckenridge. Wished I had a flat bed trailer big enough for it.

I have some photo's of it on the skid as well. I think it was one of the last to come out of Connie Edwards place and last seen on Nelson Ezell's ramp.

Oh yeah, the Mustangs are gone I think but the 109's are still there along with a 2 seater 109 and a Spit. Would like to take a peak in the hangar's. I flew over one time as they where moving two Mustangs, one flew over to Ezell's and another was trailered over. A lot of history there.
He is Southest of Midland ans south of Big Springs. I used to know the DME and radial off the Midland VOR.
