Greetings fellow WIX'ers (and especially Taylor Stevenson :o )...

For our L-5 flyers and website Im looking for some period photos of the L-5 demonstrating its air ambulance capability; patients being loaded, etc.

Any other period L-5 pics (I like the one in Taylor's post with the dog on top of the cowling) :)

Regards,

You're probably closer than you think. Try the Army Aviation Museum down at Ft. Rucker. Their photo archives have all been digitized so it is pretty easy to get copies

I've more like this. You really ought to come down to our Fly-in here in San Antonio on April 17th... We're scheduled to have one of the L-5 ambulance pilots at our event.

Here's the squadron's website: http://www.als-cannonfield.com

Thanks for the quick response fellow Wixers! Some really great shots.

Ill save these off as well as check out the Army Aviation Museum site for more.

Our L bird is getting its annual (low compression on two cyl) so we hope to have it up in the air about the time the skies clear around Ohio! Good weather for Noah's Ark up here right now...

Here's the bird I may be flying this afternoon... with one of the L-5 ambulance drivers from Okinawa on board.

Image
Here he is airborne over Okinawa.

Image
Here's a photo from Okinawa that he gave me.

I'll see what I can send. I think I probably have 25-50 related shots, and maybe 2-300 WWII L-birds shots collected, but I'm purposefully NOT posting every last one partly because WIX member Jim Gray is working on a major L-5 work and I've basically told him I won't go flooding the internet with shots so that his book can have some freshness when it gets published. If and when it's finished, it'll be THE L-5 reference to have on your shelf. Also, there seems to be this nasty little habit of pictures being saved to some other guys computer, and then they go viral or something in a way that doesn't really help the original sources at all. I'm hoping to eventually put up a significant number of pictures on http://www.lbirds.com in a gallery of sorts.

Here on WIX, use the search tool and you should find a fairly decent number of L-5 related threads that several of us have put up here.

If you can (and it's not that expensive), you and any others working with ya'll's L-5 should sign up for his newsletter / club at http://www.sentinelclub.org/

One more source of photos is here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/lbirds/

Many thanks Ryan! Such great content. I really like the old/new photos that look like mirror images that are decades apart. It reinforces why we all work so hard to make warbirds fly.

BTW, I need to connect you with Curt Rowe who takes the L-5 to Midland for Airsho every year from Ohio; now that's a cross-country! Perhaps if the timing is good we can drop in.

Well, I flew our L-5 twice today and had a blast. Got my tailwheel currency up, too - finally. It's been since the last week of November!
