If the producers of this video are listening I would suggest doing something like the option of turning on a director's commentary like the commercial movie DVDs provide. The commentator could yammer away on this secondary soundtrack, and the enthusiasts could turn it off to hear the cool sounds clearly.

I know they like to incorporate the sound of the aircraft as much as possible but most of the raw footage is marred wit the sounds of generators, people yammering in the background, ramp radios, etc.
When there are clean sound bites, I am sure they will use them.

I know you guys will make sure they put together the best production possible. And I will definitely be sending in my payment for the DVD very soon!

When it comes to sounds of the generators, ramp radios, etc., those sounds don't bother me much...if fact, I kind of enjoy them since it brings more of a feel of being there while you watch it. But as long as the "important" sounds are left intact, I don't mind some narration. Besides, I know a more general audience will appreciate some commentary about what they're seeing.

This might be a little beyond what they were hoping to do, but a seperate audio track with the "live" loudspeaker commentary might be nice (or splice in bits of the live commentary into the main audio track where the other audio is marred).

Here are a few of the can't miss sights/sounds:

1. Sound of all the B-17s rumbling overhead (assuming a flight it organized that has all or most of them in the air at once). I can't wait to hear what 32 radials sound like when they pass overhead! A microphone placed away from the spectators (along the runway, perhaps) could capture the fly-by sounds and the key take off/landing sounds as well.

2. The P-47s in flight. It's rare to have four at one time, so any footage and audio of the four in flight (if that happens) is essential.

3. In flight footage from the B-17s, if possible (or Yankee Lady, at least).

4. The screetching brakes of the heavy bombers as they taxi. Maybe I'm the only one who enjoys this, but it's an unmistakable sound that bomber enthusiasts immediately recognize.

Anyway, best of luck with the production...I know you guys will do your best!

Any chance the DVD will include the symposium speeches? It is fantastic to see those guys speeking live, but the experience would be enhanced by being about to watch the video a few times more to really make sure what they talk about sinks in. My experience at the last symposium was that there were so many great stories that you start to forget who said what about when, etc... It would be great if the DVD could include those speeches.

There were two B-17s at DX, "Pink Lady" as pretty as ever, and "Sally B", who looks like she needs some TLC.

It was very fun to hear the brakes when they taxied past us, and it was even more fun to crawl all over "Pink Lady" for two hours!



But 8 B-17s, whoa!
