New Richmond Airshow

This weekend I atended the New Richmond Airshow in Wisconsin. The New Richmond airshow is a very young show, with 2005 being its second year. The setup didn't lend itself to photographing the action, there is a highway just east of the runway, the waivered airspace is on the west side of the airport so of course all the action is backlight.

There was a pretty good lineup of acts, with a local performer whose name escapes me, John Mohr, Joe Dooley, and Darrel Massman.

Here is a selection of shots from the show. Ok, so some of these shots don't quite fit here, but they're still interesting planes to look at.

Nice stuff ! Two Piaggios on the same field ! That doesn't happen very often. :lol:

Thanks guys. I'm still trying to get used to the new 305D so I had a much larger percentage of bad shots than usual. Now to get some more compact flash to deal with the increased storage requirements...

Would you believe a disassembled P.136? Counting the one tucked away in the hangar there were 3 Piaggio Gulls on the field. I'll try to get a shot of the other airworthy one up tonight.

quite a few out of the ordinary birds that you don't usually see on the airshow circuit. the show coordinator must be well connected to get some "fresh birds" for a change in stead of the usual run of the mill stuff. best, tom

Tom, we are quite lucky to have quite a few rare and interesting aircraft in Eastern Minnesota/Western Wisconsin. A high-wing Stinson Tri-Motor was scheduled to be there, I assume it was not due to concentrating on getting the low-wing Stinson tri-motor repaired.

As prommised, here is a shot of the second flyable Piaggio, plus a few others.

In a Dec. 05 AAA newsletter, the owner related that his Royal Gull has
been uprated from 270hp to 295hp engines. Lightly loaded they used only
half of the Blakesburg runway, has been in and out of a 1300' grass strip
as well as a measured 800ft takeoff on water. They've been everywhere
in the bird..England, Europe, Central America and many Arctic Circle and
Alaska trips. What a cool bird to get around in...insert Beach Boys music.

I don't know where the Mohr's are based out of, but in an internet article
he mentioned he had another p.136 airframe for the future. Dunno if he
is related to the one in bits in the hangar above...
