Yes, the Airacobra was lost at Biggin Hill airshow, but the King Cobra was lost during a ferry flight coming from the airshow of La Ferté-Alais in France.
The pilot was John Larcombe.


Small correction: The Kingcobra (P-63) was lost at Biggin Hill, not a P-39 (Airacobra)

Yes, a bit of confusions on my own , this was also a King Cobra who crashed in Biggin Hill.

I think the P-39 is in the starting phase of what the P-40 and Hurricane were in in the late 80's to 90's. You had a few companies collecting, inventoring, and reproducing valuable parts that caused so many of the respective types to start popping up through the 1990's and 2000's. Hopefully this is what will happen with the Aircobra in years to come.

I hope someone starts with WHEELS!!! We can't seem to find any, other than those made of gold (judging by the asking price!).

So Im assuming theres no replacement that could be used? P-63 wheels or any other warbird for that matter? Wonder how hard it is to make some new wheels? :twisted: How about the actual tire? Is that still avaliable or is the whole assembly as rare as hens teeth?

Hopefully Ray Clausen will comment on this as he's on the frontline in chasing down leads on wheels. I believe, as far as tires go, we have been using a T-33 nose tire on the nose gear. I'm not sure about the mains.

POF had some new wheels machined out from a billet for their SBD like they do on those motorcycle shows. The original size tires are unobtainable. Maybe then convert to some Redline brakes?

Wow, how neat is that? I don't know anything about the waterjet/laserjet or whatever it's called. Has the technology matured enough, that the cost manufacturing a set of new wheels is reasonable, or is it still very expensive? Would this be cheaper than buying originals?

My apologies Iclo. I was incorrect in thinking that it was the old "Tipsy Miss" that crashed at Biggin Hill.
