Editor Mod: The 2009 Contest Topic can be found at: http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33789&start=0

With Ryan's permission I am going to give a try at hosting the Contest or contests for the 2010 season. This is our contest so all input is welcome. There are somethings that will be different, and some the same. Some things to ask;

1) When should it start and end? I was thinking of starting it very soon, like in a few days and run through until December. Thoughts?

2)Who would like to be sponsors? Anything like the magazine subscriptions, warbird parts, or photographs from jack are great prizes. Would anyone be willing to throw anything up for prizes?

3)Who would like to be a judge. I can be one for tie breakers, and then get a few people to be judges.

Here are how I am thinking about the rules on the photos.

1)Must be a warbird photo of course, but maybe we can have a Vintage section as well. Up to us. Static and museum aircraft are just as important so they can indeed be the subject of the photo. Last year's winner was a static C-47. I like them all, so let's see them.

2)I don't care if you edit a photo in photo shop or in some other software, but just so it is a phot and we don't go overboard with it. I mean like editing other aircraft into the pic and making it a cartoon or somthing. I don't care about cropping, adjusting lighting a bit or things like that. Just use yor best judgement on that.

3)Sections-should we do a section for the pilots, crews, and ground folks that keep these birds in the air as well. How about a section for reuniting a veteran with a type of aircraft they flew? What about a section of what aviation means for you. Such as a photo of you and friends cooking out at Oshkosh or something. Once again up to us.

4)Let's have fun.

Please add any ideas you have. I have never done this before, and am willing to give it a shot and treat all ideas equally. Thanks guys.

SO I guess the first thing that we would need to get are the judges and a start date. Is there anyone that would like to be a judge? If so, just shoot me a P.M.

Chris,

I don't know if I sent you this via PM, but I'd say that if you're going to do it more than once a year, pick a theme.
Otherwise, the field gets too broad, like in my competitions, too subjective, and will likely create headaches for the judges. It also tells those of us who will participate what kinds of pictures to shoot.
One ideas for this might be to pick a theme of the Best Warbirds promotional shot - a shot that would make newcomers want to get involved, or some other theme related.
I think I'm going to bow out of judging this go-round in hopes of coming up with a good shot!

Ryan

Hi Chris,
I think I have an unserviceable A4 tailhook that might be a good prize. I'll check and let you know for sure.

I didn't enter the last one. But I will play this one. Not that I got any good pictures to contribute. Here is my entry only because it's the newest I took from just a few weeks ago. :)

Those are all some nice pictures, but aren't we jumping the gun a bit? Do we have dates, deadlines, theme (or not), etc... ?

Ok here is the deal, pics are allowed to be submitted anytime now. The poles are open. It will run now through the end Oct.31st. If there is someone that knows of a big airshow that they were planning on attending after that dfaate, let me know, and I will extend the date.

So all pictures submitted are fine and it will run until Oct. 31st.

All Pics must have been taken from the fall of 2009(use your best judgement), until the end date of 10/31/2010.

Let's keep it simple, the best warbird pictures, and this includes modern military aircraft. In the end it is going to be the judges choices that make the winner.

The top 3 or 4 pictures will get prizes so far.

Once the prizes are locked in I will announce which place gets which prize.

Submit your top 5 pictures. 5 or less, no more.
