Good thing it's not a U.S. Navy Me-109!
I the futurem we'd have to view it preserved on the ocean floor!

Jerry you may want to take alook at the thread about raising a Hellcat from Lake Michigan. The navy has changed it's ways and is raising the 3rd or 4th airframe this year.

Good video - looks like it made a one-point landing on the bottom. What's the history?

The 109 crash landed due to engine problems, the pilot was rescued by a local woman. It was on a reccon mission with 2 other 109s when it crash landed.

The plane is very intact, only thing missing is the armored canopie. After is is raised it will be restord and put on display at Bodø Aviation Museum.

I know there's been a change in how the Navy handles things, but I couldn't resist the jab!

Wow! What a find! Any guesses as to what unit it might have been from?

Looks as if it may not be full of silt. That looks like a rather tough lift unless they can secure it by the engine and lift it just the way it is.Tricky.

Tom, it looks like heavy cargo staps at the leading edge of the cwing root next to the fuselage, bracing up past the tail to keep the straps straight and from shifting into the fragile skin, pump the airbags to get a little lift and hoist 'er up. I would think that rotating her into a horizontal plane in reduced gravity being under water, though risky would afford better loading onto a barge and minimize the damage. just my thoughts on the process, course I ain't no rocket scientist 'er nuthin you understand 8)
