The A-20 that some might be thinking of, "Big Nig", is not a Yagen aircraft, and will be going to England by the end of 2010, for display at Hendon.

ZRX61 - the "Double Trouble Two" that you saw at Chino, is one of the Friedkin P-51's, rather than this "Double Trouble Two", belonging to the Military Aviation Museum. The easiest way to tell the two apart, is that the MAM version has a Spit-mirror atop the windscreen, along with other more subtle differences.

Never could figure out why some P51 owners appear to think there is a shortage of paint schemes to choose from. At least 3 Old Crows spring to mind, 3 BBD's & others..

Whiner! :) Just kidding.

I think there used to be 3 "Petie"s regularly at Oshkosh, (2) Petie 2nds and (1) Petie 3rd, or vice-versa.
I can't wait for Frenesi to fly again. I love the OD "D" models. Not many in full OD, and only 5-6 top-side ODs I can think of.

Are you sure? Recheck the inventory list, page 37, about 25 lines down.
No, just kidding! But give Jerry time, will ya!

Yes, I realize that, thanks. I was not referring to that aircraft.

There are 3 down at Precision being restored, one of which was supposed to go to Yagen. Am I on crack or is there some semblance of truth to this? R.M. Allnutt apparently thinks the same thing as me.

If this is a rumor, where did it start? I know his aircraft has been mentioned several times here on WIX in the last 4 to 5 years. I know that Classic Wings did an article on the A-20's at Precision recently, but I don't have that issue. DaveM2, can you clear the air for us?

Not saying there's not an A-20 somewhere in some condition, but only that there has not been any mention of one under restoration or incoming since I have been in the shop. We normally get occasional updates of what's being built and the progress with pictures. Examples of that are of the 190, P-39 (none lately though), Mossie, Dragon Rapide etc. Latest word is of a Lag-9 but have not heard a timetable. No doubt there is a lot we don't see but again, in 2 years I've heard nothing of an A-20, I will ask about it though.

Thanks for the info, Craig. I have no doubt you are correct, I'm just trying to figure out how that information or rumor got started. I spend a lot of time on WIX and have been reading it pretty regularly for the last 12 years or so, even in it's other two incarnations before it was called WIX. RMAllnutt is no casual warbird fan either, as he is a wealth of information on current aircraft, projects and history. I'm just trying to track down where this information got started. I have one theory which might explain it, but I'll keep that to myself for the moment as it has to do with someone of a questionable reputation and veracity.

So, we know that "Big Nig" was sold by Murray Griffiths to the RAF Museum. So that accounts for one of the three. Where are the other two going, and who owns them?

At least we've moved on from seemingly every Avenger on the planet having Lt George Bush painted on the side...

As a further point of interest - in case no-one else mentioned - the Lavochkin La-9 is an already airworthy example restored in NZ, and on its way to VA as we speak.

Wo! Nice! It's like a cousin to the FW190. :)

Cool video Rich! I especially like the A2A shots of the PBY over the coastline. That could totally be a pacific island in 1944!

Two questions:

1) What kind of video camera did you use? Have you made the transition to HD yet? You know you can upload HD video now on both youtube and vimeo, btw.

2) I'm assuming that was tripod-shot? What kind of fluid head are you using for your tripod shots. The panning looks pretty smooth. I'm looking for a good new fluid head to use for my tripod-shot videos, as the one I'm currently using is not real smooth and tends to "grab" when panning, regardless of the friction settings, making for a slightly jerky video.

Hello and thanks for the compliment. Regarding equipment, I use the Sony HDR-FX1 for ground shots and the Sony HDR-HC9 (palm-camera, but Mini-DV tape) for air-to-air. I wasn't too sure how it would do shooting from a BT-13 (nicknamed VIBRATOR)so I kept shots to a minimum, but I got some decent shots just hand-holding. About 3-4 times the duration that's in this video is the total of what I got.

Fluid head? Tripod? That's a thing you have to carry around, right? I use a lot of water and gatorade at shows, that's about as "fluid-head" as I get. :)
I do have a Manfrotto head, but never bought legs, so everything I do is hand-held. With 2 camera bodies, 5 lenses minimum, and two video cameras to lug around, no tripod for me at this stage. :)

As far as uploading HD, I'll see how I feel in the future. I'm trying to sort out some glitches in Sony Vegas Pro on my PC, so I'm keeping the render time to a minimum since I keep running into jittery transitions and all. Might be time for ANOTHER new computer. Ugh...
