I cant say much but you may start to hear about it.The envolved parties put on one hell of a show with the Kittyhawk beating the brakes off the Mustang.

The P-40 turned really well...as long as the speed was high. The P-40 could out turn a Zero as long as the P-40's speed was greater then the Zero. But get down to low speeds and the Zero's could outturn the P-40. Also the P-40 had one of the best roll rates of WWII even better then the Spitfire. Also the dive speed on the P-40 was one of the fastest in WWII.

I have spend a good deal of time trying to change the word on the P-40. Some people just won't have it. But if you put the P-51 in place of the P-40 during 1941 and 1942 it would not have fared any better. The fact is we underestimated our enemies during the early days. Old tactics, and poor training I think was more of a facter for giving the P-40 a bad rap then the P-40 it's self.

I can't wait to hear more about this!!! I love the P-40 as well. She's a beautiful machine and quite capable. Under appreciated for all the hard work she did in all the theaters it took part in.

I've heard her roll rate was pretty good. I would love to fly a P-40 someday.

Cheers,

David

As where most dogfights end up.You would have won big, big, big after the little get together this week end.

So was this some kind of "mock" dogfight, an informal aerial exhibition or something done for Hollywood / t.v.? I assume it was the latter since everyone is being so tight-lipped about it. Was it at least documented?

Just remember, it is the pilot that often determines the outcome of an aerial confrontation when two planes of similar performance, surroundings and circumstances are involved. Randy will be the first one to tell you that.

Some details would be nice instead of everyone speaking in code. :?

Hi warbird1,

Please don't take this the wrong way it has nothing against you or anything. I just have to express my opinion on this statement that often comes up. I agree that the pilot does determine the outcome. But the plane also helps too. I sometimes feel this statement is a bash towards the P-40 that it could only be successful with a very very skilled pilot. The P-40 DOES have some good ablility outside the pilots command. I guess thats the point I am trying to make. Probably not worth much.

Thanks,
Nathan

Quite the contrary. I'm saying that the P-40 is very similar in performance to the Mustang - something not often alluded to. I wasn't bashing the P-40 at all, I'm merely saying that for two roughly equivalent airframes, the experience and training of the pilots will often determine the victor in the dogfight, that's all. :D
