Kinda high-jacked this thread, maybe need a seperate thread on this? I am aware of only one source for the rumor, which came from the Classic Wings Issue 60 article "Boston/Havoc Survivors", found on p.42 which was included in the description of A-20G s/n 43-9436, aka "Big Nig". In the same paragraph, the author states, "Murray acquired a further two airframes from the RAAF, one of which will be restored to fly for Jerry Yagen of Virginia, USA. The identities of these two airframes are not determined with any degree of certainty until they can be fully inspected, but are thought to be s/n 42-86615 and s/n 42-86772." Only Jerry Yagen and his organization can say with certainty what he is restoring. I hope we can learn if its true, its been hanging out there too long.[/quote]

We don't do 'rumours' We get our info from the source (i.e. in this case Griffiths and Yagen). Issue 60 was some three years ago, so as to whether things have changed re the A-20 (often these things do) I can't comment on, and when we can, we will do so. We are looking to have an update on Precision projects in the next issue......

I wasn't too sure how it would do shooting from a BT-13 (nicknamed VIBRATOR)so I kept shots to a minimum, but I got some decent shots just hand-holding. About 3-4 times the duration that's in this video is the total of what I got.

I use the HC9 as well. It's a terrific camera and the last of the HDV tape cameras from Sony unless you go to the professional level. I've had mine for 2 years now and it's given me nothing but stellar video!

richkolasa wrote:Fluid head? Tripod? That's a thing you have to carry around, right? I use a lot of water and gatorade at shows, that's about as "fluid-head" as I get. :)
I do have a Manfrotto head, but never bought legs, so everything I do is hand-held. With 2 camera bodies, 5 lenses minimum, and two video cameras to lug around, no tripod for me at this stage. :)

Wow, no tripod! I'm impressed. You do a great job with that handheld stuff!

richkolasa wrote:As far as uploading HD, I'll see how I feel in the future. I'm trying to sort out some glitches in Sony Vegas Pro on my PC, so I'm keeping the render time to a minimum since I keep running into jittery transitions and all. Might be time for ANOTHER new computer. Ugh...

I use Sony Vegas Pro as well and it's fantastic! I would suggest joining the Vegas forums to answer any of your questions on your problems. The wealth of information there is truly incredible. I don't know why you have those problems, but from what I've read on the forums is that people typically have issues with AVCHD or HDV when they try to edit those raw files on the timeline of Vegas without undergoing a conversion to an intermediary codec like Cineform. Unless you have a very new, very fast, multi-core CPU computer, editing the raw files on the timeline is not recommended. Also, and I'm sure you know this, but you can't judge your previews by what you see on the preview screen. The transitions WILL be choppy on all but the most newest computers as they can't keep the frame rates up high. The final rendered transitions however, will look normal.

Well that would explain everything. Apparently Yagen has sold the A-20(s) project(s) that he had. Thanks DaveM2!

As far as the "rumor" thing, I wasn't talking about you DaveM2 or Classic Wings magazine. I was referring to another individual in my previous reply.

I was referring to Triangle P's reference - I know who you were referring to.....
As to whether Yagen has sold (or not) his A-20 project that is for him to release, and nothing I have said confirms either way.....

Thanks DaveM2. Yes, I understand, but I think we can infer some things based off of what Craig Q said. I think Craig Q's quotes pretty much sum it up:

CraigQ wrote:If there is an A-20 headed this way then it's the best kept secret Gerald has, been here almost 2 years and have not heard a thing about an A-20. Lots of other things though, but not an A-20.

CraigQ wrote:Not saying there's not an A-20 somewhere in some condition, but only that there has not been any mention of one under restoration or incoming since I have been in the shop. We normally get occasional updates of what's being built and the progress with pictures. Examples of that are of the 190, P-39 (none lately though), Mossie, Dragon Rapide etc. Latest word is of a Lag-9 but have not heard a timetable. No doubt there is a lot we don't see but again, in 2 years I've heard nothing of an A-20, I will ask about it though.

yes, I see a dual-core in my near future. The problems I've had are post-rendering, and even though my PC was pretty high speed 4 years ago, it's always had little glitches that bugged me, so I'll probably buy a new one next month. I will join the forums, thanks!

Thanks again for the kind words...

Wow, a computer that's 4 years old, that's ancient when it comes to editing HD! Yea, if you are serious about editing HD, you most definitely need a new, fast computer.

The specific Vegas forums that I'm talking about are located here:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/for ... ?ForumID=4

BTW, a dual-core is not really going to cut it if you intend on doing lots of HD editing. A quad-core is the absolute minimum, while a 6 or 8 core or higher is preferred.

Thanks again for the video and good luck on your video editing! :D

Let me make clear here that I am in no capacity an official 'spokesperson' for anyone but myself, I speak only for myself as a mech on the FF floor. Whether there is an A-20 in the pipeline I cannot say, only that in the two years I have been on board there has been no mention or talk of one in the shop. No one else on the floor I mentioned it to has heard of one either and as already mentioned, we usually get an update from time to time on what's coming along. But an A-20 would be cool alongside the B-25 & A-26 though!
This can be put in the 'for what it's worth' file.

Were you able to find out if Mr. Yagen has ever had an A-20 at any time in the past, perhaps before you arrived at the shop? Maybe another variable here is perhaps the original author in the Classic Wings article made a simple mistake. If that original article used the questionable person I was referring to above as his source, it would not be out of the realm of possibility for there to have been an error. That questionable person had written articles for major warbird publications in the past, FWIW. That does not diminish the outstanding value that the magazine provides to enthusiasts, however, as CW is one of the best, if not the best magazines on the warbird movement, IMO.

I was the original author of the article-as I already mentioned we (yes I am sub editor of CW) go to the source for info. The person in question has never written for us, and even if he did, we would always confirm such info direct, before printing-without maintaining the trust and discretion of warbird owner-operators we would soon be out of business.
These people do not appreciate 'speculation in print' and many don't appreciate uniformed speculation in other media-but that is the way it is since the inception of the interweb and instant communication-at least forum chat can be edited or deleted-not so with printed matter.
That said, one or two operators have 'used' the publication (and others no doubt), to further their own agenda, however there is little that can be done about that, and fortunately it happens once in a blue moon.
Triangle P, no problem at all, when I see CW and 'rumour' in the same sentence I get the red mist coming down.
Anyway-back to producing the next 'rumour free' edition
