Reading WWII Weekend 2010

Please feel free to add any updates here.
Was at the field early Friday, saw the following arrive or already there.
2 B-17,
3 B-25s
6 Mustangs
SBD
Helldiver
P-40
P-47
Spitfire
Sure I missed something.
P-61 was outside on her wheels but under a tent.
Plenty of veterans too, Bud Anderson, "Boots" Blesse, 2 Doolittle Raiders, just to name a few.

Thanks Nathan, first time I've seen this Mustang. Looked real good.
Hope we get to see it next month too.

Oh, and I forgot another aircraft that arrived,
the Canadian Warplane Heritage's Lancaster.

It's easy to forget about the Lancaster since it is so common :rolleyes:

BTW, any comments about the sound from the new Glenn Wegman-rebuilt engine on P-51 Red Nose would be welcome...regrets I'll miss Reading this year due to a housing move but my Dixie Wing colleagues tell me its a much different sound than our original engine...more Indy Car-like and less big-block Chevy (or Packard!)

How could I also not forget to plug the ultra-smooth lines of the gear doors thanks to the Yoak family!

Hope some WIX'ers reserved P-51 and SBD rides....we're busy but might have a few open slots!

Yep, Old Red Nose and the SBD were both flying rides throughout the day.

Warbird Radio looked pretty busy too.

Had a great time on saturday. I didn't see the P-51 "Never Miss" anywhere. IMHO this was the best WW2 Weekend yet. Flying highlights for me were Beasley in the Spit, and Scooter in the Mustang. Here are a few of my pics. Some P-61 shots for Tim, but the tent made it hard to get a decent picture.

The closest I have ever been to a B-25 starting up :shock:

Sunday was a lot of fun despite the wacky weather.

Major props to Greg for stitching together a fine flying program despite the conditions, and to all the aircrew who coped with them, especially the 3 solos Russo, Dameo, and Shipley for entertaining us during those hard crosswinds. Shipley especially for doing a great job judging the winds and for the nice encore at the end of the day. Based on the flying, one gets the impression you enjoy that plane.

The crowd seemed light all day and especially after the cloudburst when it seemed most folks went home. As Mr. T would say, I pity the fools because the bomber and P-51 flying after the storm was delightful. Photographers were in heaven with the clearing clouds, reflections off the tarmac, wet planes, etc.

P-61 looks great.

Overall, maybe not the super extra special standout 20th year that was originally planned, but very solid and enjoyable, still by far the best in the mid-Atlantic region.

Thanks for the video Matt. I am embarassed to say that I walked past your table twice and failed to say hello. My brain was so focused on warbirds and the gigantic B-24 nose art panel next to you that I did not notice your set up. Maybe you need a red "On Air" sign over the table next time.

I had a great time at WWII weekend as always. I'll try and upload my pictures soon.
