Absolutely nothing to do with warbirds

Sat Jun 12, 2010 12:20 pm

OK...this has absolutely nothing to do with warbirds but SOMEBODY here knows the answer to this. (It is NOT a quiz.)
I was talking to a guy today about WWII and he mentioned that Hitler had awarded a special medal to, a very few, high ranking officers
He said it was a platinum disc encrusted with precious jewels and was about 3-4" in diameter. He also said he thought Admiral Lutjens had one that is still in the safe on the Bismark.
Anyway...I've looked all over the internet to try to find info on it and a picture but can't seem to come up with anything.
HELP ME...HELP ME... :?

Not just Lutjens, but I believe Kesselring and P Diddy also received one.

Mudge,

You probably have seen this, but this is the only reference I ran across that combines the platinum & silver:

Hey Dan,
Did that award come with a pink fur hat and platform shoes? Der Field Marshal must have been very conspicuous driving around in his pink Mercedes with red velour upholstery-

Well, when Mudge described the 3"-4" platinum disc encrusted with gems, I knew I had seen that before.

How was I supposed to know he doesn't think cubic zirconia is a precious jewel?

OK, Mudge...apparently you feel you've suffered long enough (although I was just getting warmed up).

Although it's not quite disc-shaped, might your friend have been talking about the rumored High Seas Fleet Badge with diamonds? There is no historical documentation to suggest that such an award was ever issued to anyone during the war, but at least now you can google some more info about it.

If this isn't what you're friend was describing, you're now on your own.

Oh yeah: You're welcome.
