Yes, I enjoy Mustangdriver's input here as well as everyone elses. I think the important thing to learn from the P-82 thread is that we don't all have to agree. We can have disagreements, not let it get personal and still be friends in real life, as well as this forum. This is very unlike the mood here a few years ago when some people took it personally and to an extreme. That's when the rhetoric starts escalating and it turns personal with threats. A few people have been banned because of this. I'm really shocked that the P-82 thread was able to remain civil and not get locked down. That would have been unheard of just a couple of years ago.

Remember people, it's okay to have disagreements, that's not a problem at all. It crosses the line when you start attacking the other person, rather than their argument or logic, backed up with facts.

The lesson to be learned here: Attack the argument, not the person!

Even though I love the NMUSAF and can't stand Gen. Metcalf, I still like Chris and would buy him a beer if I ever met him!

Or maybe I should have said I would buy Chris some kool-aid instead, since he seems to be drinking a lot of it lately!

As I said earlier in the Twin Mustang thread:

You may not agree with Chris 'Mustangdriver' but he has at least been clear to remain polite, and accepted where he's been wrong cheerfully, and has continued to share his understanding and insight of the NMUSAF. But he's not General Metcalf or the General's spokesperson, although you'd think so by some reactions.

But one (I think) important last point - I'd also add that we lose a good deal of input on WIX due to aggressive putdowns. Some of that comes from some of us who don't like accepting that our personal preferences aren't actually correct or supported by legally tested facts.

We can't bully others into agreeing with us here; not should we restrict the discussion by trying to coerce other posters. We can certainly review and change our own views and opinions based on the information and opinion brought here - we are only our own masters.

I come to WIX to learn what's going on, and gain from others' views - which then changes what I think, sometimes not an easy thing to do or accept. Do you?

I'm deeply flattered by everyone's kind words. When I went thru my divorce, I found many of my friends I made on Wix there to back me up. The P-82 thread was a good thread for the fact that both sides argued their case, but never got nasty to the person. Brad, Dan K, bdk, Mark, and everyone that posted in there should also be mentioned. Alot of times threads get heated, I just try to respect everyone.

I used to see things alot differently before on WIX. I try not to drink so much of the koolaide, but still remain a supporter of the museum. Alot of that "mellowing out" if you will is because of things I've been able to do thanks to WIX. Alot of what makes airshows and travelling to museums special is meeting other WIXers. It sounds cheesy but WIX has had some memorable moments.

I remember being pretty new and amazed at how WIX members came together to try and help Jack after the fire.
I remember meeting many of the gang at the first cookout at Zach's and having a blast. And then the next few years as it went from Internet forum users meeting to a cookout with friends. Which included Al(spooky the cat) turning the rental car into a disco as we ran cones over.
I remember going to work everyday on the medical helo and in my down time reading about what Gary had gotten done on the B-24.
I remember Zack getting me a new Lifetime Membership pin after some one broke into my car.
I remember Jack Cook helping me find photos for my new gameroom and asking for nothing in return
I remember sitting in a hotel room in tears when I heard about Gary. He showed me that even though we'd only met a few times, and chatted on WIX that it is possible to form friendships with people here.

There are too many of you guys to name one by one, but some of best friends were made here.
Thank you guys for saying all of those kind words. You guys made my day.

I also want to sat thanks to Bill. Bill has always treated me as a friend. At zachary's cookout, Bill is always among the first to greet me. Usually with an egg in the other hand. When I was looking for a tire for my gameroom, I went out with some friends and came home to find a Spitfire main tire on my porch that Bill shipped me. Bills always great to talk with and is always offering a ride when he has a empty seat going somewhere. I'm honored to count him among my friends.
The same goes for the others I mentioned earlier and some I didn't. WIX is an awesome bunch. Thanks for allowing me to be part of it.

Must have slipped thru the cracks in the old WIX board. too bad all your pics are gone along with it. We were hoping it would have been at the Mustang Round-up. Something like a P-51 is easy to lose on WIX.
