Lancaster wheels

Mission accomplished.

I went to New-Brunswick to pick up two Lancaster wheel with their tires.

I returned home with the wheels friday night. I had an expert at moving whole homes cut the bolts and free the wheels.

We stopped at Edmundston to see Lancaster KB882 on our way back.

Finally, home.

24 hours of driving in two days for a good cause!

I'd like to know the best way to remove the tires from the wheels without destroying anything, if that is possible at all. Anybody has an idea?

Fantastic! Perhaps you could contactl the Canadian Warplane Heritage in Hamilton for help with removning the tires from the rims.

What are you planning on doing with them? Monster trauck? Tundra tires for a beaver? :lol:

Ironic how those boat hoist frames have stuff like that. There is one here that has wheels from a B-24.

N3NJeff,

I can't believe that you havn't grabbed the B-24 wheels you mentioned. What's up with that?

I left the other wheels there as they were totally shot. The magnesium could be removed by hand from the hubs. I would have ended up scrapping them myself, so why bother moving them 1 200km to do that? Also, the tires were vented, nowt to do with it.

I'm planning on restoring them to perfect conditions, I'll eventually sell the one I don't need or give it to a museum.

Now the big question is how to remove the tires without destroying them if that is ever possible.

I'm in no hurry though, so I'll work on them when all information will be at hand.

The one hub looks like it merely needs a good strip down prime and paint to look factory fresh again. I can't believe the condition of the rubber though.. amazing!

KB882 looks much better now that she has had her identity put back opn after the last repaint. She was missing her codes and Air Transport Command titles for a long time.. She is canada's last intact lancaster as in un cut to mount on posts and is a true candidate for restoration to ground run, taxi and flight! Imagine seeing her in flight with CWH's lanc..!
