Wow! Thanks for posting the photo! It sure does look like he did an awesome job of putting it on the ground, what with all those trees and other growth there. The plane actually looks like it might be fairly easy to get fixed. Of course our mechanical types might think otherwise. What does a pilot know?

June 6, 1944. An L-2 landed safely in heavy brush after taking small arms fire from German ground forces. The pilot was surveying and guiding P-47's into the area for ground attack sorties. The pilot was unarmed and was able to evade capture. Eventually he connected with the 101st Airborne and was brought back to HQ.

(At least thats what I see when i look at this picture. ) Glad to hear the pilot was unharmed. The aircraft looks to be in relatively good condition considering the location of his abrupt landing. Kudos to the pilot. His ego may be bruised but he should consider himself lucky as well as a good pilot. Im sure there could have been many worse endings given this scenario.

Chicks Dig Warbirds.......right?

That's an amazing photo. It looks more like storm damage than the result of in flight emergency. It is surrounded by trees yet the prop isn't bent and it appears to be sitting on its landing gear. Much of the plane at first glance, received no damage at all.

To me, the empennage looks tweaked out of plumb, which means the aft fuselage is twisted. In addition, whatever broke that lift strut probably did a number on the fuselage frame at the wing attach points.

Someone's gonna have to break out a hacksaw, a grinder, and a welder in addition to whatever else is broken.

The good thing is that these airplanes are simple and inexpensive to fix if you have the time and skill.

The better thing is that the pilot was unhurt.

I'm so glad my friend is OK. He did a great job. Egos heal, planes repaired, but people can't be replaced.

The plane is definitely bent, but we will start ASAP to get her fixed.

As our friend would have said.............."that'll buff right out"
