Archie had not been back in a Corsair in about a HUNDRED years! It was not a CAF airplane, I can not remember which collection Rick was flying it for, but yea, seemed funny to me too at the time (1983??)

Yes Archie was probably the greatest guy of all the old CAF crew. It was a pleasure to have known him, and I still see Mary every few years at airshows. Still unbelievable record...............ace in a day!..........twice!!!!!!

Ober, Archie was a great guy. He trusted me & my thoughts, as far as aircraft maint (grounding the B-23 which sucked).
When I moved to Pensacola, Archie gave me the Green light to approach NAS P-Cola about CAF aircraft coming to their Homecoming Air Show. I did & we made it happen. I was very sad the day we lost him, though I had lost contact with him long ago, I am proud to have known him & the relationship we had.
Here's the surprise. Me being the young Whippersnapper I was at the time was not aware of Archie's combat record, or what a great Hero he was to our country, he was just a Great Navy Fighter Pilot Buddy to me.

"Mary Mine" is a true war veteran with combat time and kills. In the picture her wartime pilot George Vanden Hueval is standing to the right of then owner Charles Kemp. Vanden Hueval finished the war with 5.5 destroyed in the air and 3.1 ground destroyed.
