I think by now you are sharing in the heat misery!!!! Two more days...and then hopefully some relief. Hope it's nice next Tuesday, I'm off to see and fly in the Collings Foundation B-17 and B-24.

an old thread ... but worthy of reply. this summer has been hotter & dryer than a witches left boob!!! none hotter since 1988. rainfall down 6 inches to date!!! death valley days here. lake erie 75 degrees, like pee water. you have to go to erie pa to get a limit on perch or walleye. no fishing in the dead center on the north coast!!!!

I had to chuckle at one of our local TV stations. Across the bottom of the screen they run the names of the counties in the region where heat advisories are in effect. Apparently they don't realize that that's pretty much two-thirds of the country right now

HOT,HOT,HOT,HOT,HOT! And did I mention Sticky! And HOT! We've had a couple of breaks with heavy rain and a couple of cool evenings. AND let me qualify the above statement. It's way hotter then we like here in the republic, BUT, I KNOW alot of you would trade down to our high eighties and mid nineties with coresponding humidity! As a wise old mailman once said to me,"Stay out of the Hot sun!"(hard to do when you're delivering mail!

AHHHH!!!! Relief at last! Currently 64 degrees F. Only supposed to be in the 70's today. I'm not sure how we survived the Summer of 1988 when it was unbearably hot all summer.

No, you don't understand, you think that you have Hot weather, but "it ain't Texas hot weather."
And to make it even more miserable, add the high humidity levels we "enjoy" here in the Gulf Coast.
My air conditioning unit has been working hard at keeping the place at an acceptable level.
Storms are expected today, probably will only help to bring even more humidity to the already HOT Texas weather : )

And of course I have a meeting in San Antonio on the 9th of August. August is never a good time to have a meeting in Texas!

Yes, the FW-190 and some other stuff at the Texas Air Museum (at Stinson), the Alamo Liason Squadron's place off 1604 (I could get you a contact phone number if you're interested). Besides those rotting hulks over at Lackland... which I don't know about gettting access to.
Oh, and by the way. Yes it's hot in TX, but not unbearably, especially if you've lived here all your life. And the weather's nearly always good enough for flying. I mean, the local airshow at the Air Force bases (they switch off different years) here is in November. Can't think of anything else easily or readily accesible warbirds wise. Wish there was a better presence here in town, especially with all the veterans still living here.

Right now it's probably Broken clouds around 4000 ft. 84 degrees F on my back porch with a nice breeze and a hint of a possible light rain shower. Not bad at all compared to what I've heard on the radio.

As I remember, I let the Republic on a HOT August 3rd and Arrived at a little Texacan cowtown called San Antone at about 2230hrs. If my memory serves me(it WAS 1978) the terminal was as hot and humid inside as it was outside in Maine at NOON! And then we got to fart around Lackland AFB until about 0100hrs. It was STILL HOT! But I still say that anything over 65deg is too warm and over 80deg is HOT!

If time allows it, and if you have a car, San Marcos, TX (North from San Antone on I-35) should have at least a P-40, a T-33, a P-39 and other aircraft, to see. The CAF squadron there is housed in a hangar that is a national architectural landmark.
On I-10 West, there is Boerne Stage Field, with another CAF squadron, but for sure they are only open during weekends.
If time permits, and if you are interested, you could visit the Mooney aircraft factory in Kerrville; but in order to do so, you must be there by 0900 because they only have one tour a day if I recall correctly; you take I-10 West to Kerrville, and look for the factory at the local airport.
Stinson Field has already been mentioned.
