I have been constantly deployed since 2007. it's really not that big a deal. If all else fails go to the USO to use their wireless internet. If you wind up at a FOB you can still probably get cell phone modem internet... every unit has a tech geek who can show you how to do it. Or, you unit can get satellite internet @ 3-4000.00 but if everone pitches in it's cheap...

Justin,

Be safe and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Looking forward to your return and spending some time at Texas airshows with you again.

K

I think what he's trying to say is that, for the vast majority of folks deployed to OEF and OIF there is plenty of regular connectivity (internet, phone, television) to the real world.

What you're really seeing, though, is simply a difference in perspective between someone who is new to deploying and someone who isn't new to deploying. From the neophyte's perspective, it's shiny, new, exciting, nerve wracking, and a little dangerous. By the time you have several deployments under your belt, your attitude about it will be significantly different.

So, that's no disrespect or rude toward you, it's just the facts of being in a military that has been 'at war' for 9 years and there are a lot of people who have spent a lot of time in those deployed lands.

Good luck and STAY SAFE!!

Check in as time allows and post some photos as OPSEC allows. I'd love to see things from the rotary wing perspective.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. Thanks Randy for what you wrote, spot on. If this is your 1st deployment then yes it will be exciting, the important thing is to keep a good sense of humor and let things happen as they occur. in the end, deploying is what it's really all about. Like I tell our new guys -Now it's for real.
Take notes on ways to do things better next time- This may be your first deployment but I can about guarantee you it won't be your last.
