I like "The Tourist" myself as a pin up girl option, but I don't know that it is a Hal Olsen plane.

Is there a definite list of all the aircraft that Hal Olsen painted?

Django, I have a pretty good list of the PB4Y-2s that Hal Olsen painted. Of course memories may fade but Hal’s mind is still pretty sharp. I will check back after I refer to my notes and will provide you with a list but not a definitive one. Cheers

Django, here is a list of Privateer nose art that Hal Olson can remember that he did while on Tinian 1944-46.
There may be more but I am pretty sure that these forty-one are his. I to hope that Hal Olson will be able to paint some nose art on the NMNA's Privateer.

Hello Mr. Carey!

I was reviewing Bill Larkins book "US Navy Aircraft 1912-1941 / US Marine Corps Aircraft 1914-1959" and noted on page 120 of the USMC section there is a photo of a USMC Privateer BuNo 59408. The word MARINES can be vaguely seen written on the tail. The same photo appears again in Thomas Doll's book, "Flying Leathernecks in World War II" pg. 81 and states that is flying out of MCAS Ewa, April 1945.

I was not aware that the USMC utilized the Privateer at all and did not see reference of such usage in your excellent PB4Y-2 publication. Do you, or any one else for that matter, have any information as to which USMC squadron(s) operated them? VMD, VMB...?

Correction on my earlier post. VMD 154 flew PB4Y-1s not -2s which is what you were asking about.

THe Marines did operate a few converted Privateers as transports.

And there is still a little bit of RY-3 still flying--the nose of the CAF Liberator has "RY-3" painted on it in the cockpit area. Consolidated installed a spare RY-3 forward fuselage onto AM927 late in the war.
