Can anyone confirm if this is the first flight of the former racer since Mike Loening ground-looped it, on emergency landing with a blown engine, after leading the first couple laps of the 1971 Reno Championship Unlimited race in September 1971?

There were some articles and at least one book (CHINO by Joe Cupido) that said if flew following a rebuild at Chino in the 70's after Loening sold it. I have never seen a photo of it as a rebuild during that time period. Cupido said it "crashed and was a total loss soon after being rebuilt for Bruce Morehouse..."

Is it going to be named "Seattle Miss"?

I'm sure Ben Hall would smile at that....maybe we can get the paint job to match?

Will be named Live Bait. See: http://mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/p51sur ... 3-p10.html

The WW II pilot of "Live Bait" lives near me, he'll be happy about this. He's a good fellow.

Correct, and there has been a few teaser images of the aircraft sporting this scheme up on the MustangsMustangs site. I'm really looking forward to seeing photos of the completed aircraft! http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/p5 ... 3343.shtml (The cockpit looks very, very similar to Midwest Aero's work on Red Dog - featuring a very nice blend of old and new).

Dammn Mike, you're such a tease! I suppose you want to save it's "grand entrance" for Oshkosh?

Thanks anyways, I'm sure it will be an award winning restoration just like everything you put your hands on! :)

I was deployed last summer and missed all of this. Recently stumbled across a mention of "Live Bait" being an OSH award winner ... did I miss all the threads, photos, etc?? This restoration is all new to me, so someone please help catch me up ...
