Very nice photo, thank you for sharing it! It's great to see it out and about.

It's a new repaint, of a P-51 which hasn't been seen much over the past few years. http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/p5 ... -74977.php

Nice paint job but wayyyyyyyyy off in accuracy.
Carey Salter is a great guy and a fine southern gentleman.
He was a late war pilot in the 353rd FS his P-51D had the solid yellow
nose, no marking on the verticle stab or rudder and no invasion stripes.

We all know it couildn't possibly fly without the invasion stripes!

I think that's the first time I've ever seen Pi used as an ID letter.

I remember when that airplane was stolen, there was an ad in Trade-a-Plane about it. Never knew it had been recovered. Anybody ever get charged or caught?

Ah yes...the "Great Tonopah Mustang Caper".....

Two questions...how do you steal a Mustang in the middle of the night...and more important, how do you HIDE it once you've got it? The warbird community, even in 1984, is/was only so big.

Any one have any pictures of the Wanted/Stolen Mustang that were posted at the Breakenridge Air Show that year. Remember seeing them, but can't find any pictures.

National insignia proportions are wrong as well. It's kind of a retro 1975 paint job.

Here's some info on Cary Salter and this Mustang.

Based on the above photo looks like the nose art is too small too. Retro 1975... nice.

If you don't know the particulars, it still looks great in the air and on the ramp.

I still miss the CBI markings though.
