CraigBirkhold wrote:Thanks, That explains everthing! John Dilley of Fort Wayne Air Service purchased "What's Up Doc" from Ross Grady and restored it as "American Beauty" for Max Chapman to match "Mad Max". It was the last Mustang that John restored before he retired and was one of his bests. John Dilley/Tom Kelley had LOU IV #1&2 which #2 eventually ended up with Chuck Greenhill. It was sold and later crashed in Calif. and now is in rebuild in Canada. Lou IV #1 of Dilley's was turned into "Cutter's Cappers" then "American Beauty" with Renolds in Olympia, WA. Now Chapman's "American Beauty" gets turned into the correct color of "LOU IV" with Chuck Greenhill. I was told by a FWAS mechanic that Chapman wanted a special Mercedes green primer that costs $1,200/gal. It is probably one of the most expensive interior primers of any Mustang restoration in history.
So to sum it up, Dilley's "LOU IV" #1 turns in an "American Beauty". Dilley's "LOU IV" #2 goes to Greenhill and later sold/crashed. Finally, Dilley/Chapman's "American Beauty" turns into Greenhill's "LOU IV" #3 with correct paint. I hope everybody has got it straight because sometimes I even get confused.

CraigBirkhold wrote:Thanks for the right side picture of LOU IV. I don't think I have ever seen an original right side photo of it. Maybe it would be nice to forward the picture to Chuck Greenhill for historical acuracy. Would that mean another trip to Sky Harbor for repaint on the right side this winter?
