Couldn't they just delay the flights? Or would that push other flights to be delayed? Although many airports have a slow-down period (usually late at night into real early into the morning) that you think they could have slipped these delayed flights in. That's the part I don't understand. I don't mind having to spend a few hours in the airport as there is usually a sports bar to wait the delay out.
