Nice stuff, Steve.

I can't help thinking that many of your shots are zoomed or cropped very close when they'd be very good shots with the whole plane in view.

I'd particularly like to see full frames of the Dr1 replica (rear view), Aeronca, Janie and maurice's T6 since cropping these shots adds little impact from my point of view. Whereas the rear view of BBD works very well.

Please don't take this as a knock, it isn't. I'd just like to see more of the planes in the photo in instances where I don't think the crop adds impact to an already good shot. I crop plenty of stuff myself, but I try not to crop across a star or roundrel if I can help it and I try to keep the shot balanced. let's face it, you've got to take a good, sharp shot before you can even consider cropping it. Let's see more of your good work in the frame.

Im grateful that you took the time to give such a constructive response Robbo The fact is I haven't actually cropped the ones with parts of the aircraft missing as I took them pretty much like that except maybe with an uneven spread of one wing over another. However next time I will remember your advice and rest assured I will zoom out a bit more often Thanks again Robbo

That is a great shot! I enjoyed reading your write up on the show and seeing some pictures from it.

I also enjoy ready a bit about how other want to see pictures and how to improve picture quality, in a nice way. Cropping is something I'm starting to play with a bit.

Spot on, Steve. A beauty.

Cropping's a great way of adding impact, but a lot of pictures are great (better) without it. I've seen some lovely photos ruined by close crops recently. It seems to be a trend that if people get a sharp cockpit then they just crop to that, but in doing so they lose a great photo. At the end of the day it's just one opinion

I'll have to get up to Breighton one of these days - wish it didn't clash with Old Warden so much. If you ever get down to OW, give me a shout - 6 foot tall fat bald bloke in a yellow waistcoat.

please give my best to Gordon McClymont next time you see him.. i checked him out in my spartan a number of years ago and got him hooked on this old airplane stuff when he was on an exchange tour with the test pilot f15 bunch at edwards.. good guy and we stay in touch still every year or so.. tell him i'm in a 51 now
