It looks like DOC is on those wheels now. The Cam only shows the Tail Gunner position. I assume they towed it around a bit.

Hi All,

It sure looks like progress, at least the visible kind, is going very quickly now. And with FiFi looking like she is getting some serious TLC, it would be, at least my conclusion, that perhaps FiFi will be present when DOC rolls out for her test fights. What do you think ? Sound reasonable ??

"Doc" gets his wheels, rolls to new hangar

The B-29 restoration team installed the landing gear on "Doc" recently
and moved the historic airplane to a new hangar Wednesday.
This move is another step toward completing the restoration project .
More than 60 years after the last B-29 Superfortress rolled out of the Wichita factory, "Doc," the B-29 undergoing restoration, received his landing gear and is moved to a new hangar for final assembly.

Boeing employees along with about 50 volunteers celebrated their progress and moved "Doc" to a final production hangar.

"Doc," serial number 44-69972, was manufactured by Boeing Wichita in 1944 and delivered to the United States Army Air Forces in March of 1945. "Doc" has four 2,200-horsepower Wright Double Cyclone engines. It took a crew of 10 to fly the plane.

"Doc" is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortresses built at Boeing Wichita.

There is something about the B-29 that makes it the sleekest 4-engine plane ever built.

It still looks very modern.

Thanks for sharing!

When I get my new badge, I get some new pics.
Someone will have to host the pics, though, so they can be posted.

Not sure. Since they sold the commercial side of the plant, I haven't been able to get over to Doc's hangar.

I think I read that it comes down to getting the $$$$$$ to get the engines overhauled.

I didn’t get the feeling that they had started on them yet, but that is me trying to read into things and between the lines.
