YOu guys did an outstanding job, really amazing. Tara, is there any chance A&T could be hired to bring up that PBM Mariner flying boat that the Navy tried to birng up from Lake Washington that broke in half?
THere is only one other in existence and it's at Pima and is an amphibious model. I would think even the wreckage, because it's in freshwater would make it a worthy effort.

marine air, isn't there a PBM also at NMNA? I agree it would be cool!

Yes, there is... the sole survivor in captivity (PBM-5A Bu.122071 I believe).

Cheers,
Richard

Yes. No. I'm so confused...

As Richard mentioned, 122071 is the last -5A, but she's not at Pensacola.

As Marine Air mentioned, she IS at Pima (and in beautiful shape might I add).

Check out this link. Notice displayed in back what's left of the tail section of PBM-5 (BuNo 59172) the Navy tore off back in 1996.

Bugger... you are completely correct... I transposed her location with the Marlin, which is at Pensacola, and also a sole survivor (I believe).

Cheers,
Richard

Speaking of P5M Marlins, they were used in Vietnam and scrapped around 1970, IIRC. SOme of them were scrapped at a U.S. Navy base in Japan. Later the Japanese came out with a turboprop verson of their own design that looked like a clone of the Martin P5M Marlin . Is there any provenance between the two. Sure wold be nice if some of the Japanese flying boats had Martin origins.
Anyone know about these?

Hi all,

Just posting some photos sent by Taras Lyssenko of A&T Recovery. Photos taken by Adam Klarer contracted to A&T. Some nice photos and a couple of questions. Posted with permission.

Low flying. What is the thing on the port bomb rack. Thought it was a concrete practice bomb (some were found in the bomb bay - looks the prong shape?).

0.3" ammunition box - great condition.

Not flak - just fragile. Nice to see NAVY 19866 and side number '10' in white.

Engine looks like she wants to separate.

So is it disassembled and just sitting outside like the last set of pictures show or is it under actual restoration?
