Actually a U.S. Navy Spitfire (of VCS-7.) It just looks like it is RAF.

Thanks Jim for another little piece of history I did not know about!!
More on the VCS-7:
http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/spitfires-of-the-us-navy.htmlConsidering the short duration of VCS-7's combat time with Spitfires, it could help to closer date the picture.
Hey Mudge a relative of yours?

The pilots are Lieutenant Robert F. Doyle, USNR, shaking hands with his wingman, Ensign John F.
Mudge, USNR, after their return from a gunfire-spotting and strafing mission over the Normandy. [US Navy]

I should add-
Bovines are airworthy
1st 2 P-47s look airworthy
The others I would say are Grounded
Cool photo.
Must have been one of a few safe places to put a damaged A/C down near the front lines at that point.

Looks like 42-25904 is tied to MACR 8500 on Aug. 17, 1944 (just a month after the photo was taken). Pilot Arthur C. Davis KIA over Bernay, France. As stated before 50th FG, 81st FS
