Heroes Flying Fire Tankers

There is a large fire tonight in Boulder Colorado – these fire tanker drivers are true studs. The good thing is that the fire is so close to Rocky Mountain Airport - they land, taxi over to the slurry pit, refill the bombers and then in about 10 minutes their off again. Round trip takes about 20 to 30 minutes then they repeat the process.
There should be two more P-3's and one more P2V joining the battle tomorrow.

Yeah, I heard we had 1 small and 2 big boys working the fire and three to four more joining them tomorrow....and overnight they expect the wind to reverse itself and blow the fire back over what it had already burned, which should help slow it.....saw the huge plume from work today and wondered what was going on....lots of homes lost so far, hope they manage to reign it in...

Great pics! I hope the fire is contained, and more importantly the crews all come home safe! When I lived in that area back in the early 80s, one of H&P's Super Privateers would be stationed there during the summer months.
The pic of the single engine bird reminds of something I've always been curious about. Why are the props often feathered on turboprops when the engine is idling?
