Is there anyone out there on this forum who is/knows a historian dealing with Lockheed Lodestars? I have been trying to find out more about the ones the Norwegian Air Force used into the early 1950's. They were sold first to a company called Aero-Nord in Sweden, and later a few ended up in the U. S. Have searched Landings.com and they have three of them listed with N# today. N163R appearently had a hard landing in 1980. N38BF and N202H I don't know anything about, apart from a photo of N202H on airliners.net. If anyone can help, don't be shy!!! :D

It is some time since you tried to start this thread. If you are still interested in something more on this topic, please post again (or send me a private message).

I am interested in finding out more about N38BF and, in doing so, obtained some details of this aircraft's history.

The Air-Britain book The Lockheed Twins has some detail on N38BF's career. I assume its airframe serial number is 2087? The final entry is "cancelled from US register 1969 - fate unknown". If you are interested I can send you the details.

Yes, Dave, it is c/n 2087. It had quite an interesting history and I would pleased if you could send me what you have.

I have managed to get photos of it as G-AGDD (in BOAC wartime colours) and as 2087/T-AC (Norwegian Air Force). It chopped and changed between the two persona during the war, essentially working the Leuchars - Stockholm route, before reverting to the Norwegians, who had brought it over from the States in the first place. I have no photographs of it since that time.

I am mainly interested in its activities as N38BF, around 1965 and 1966, when it was owned by Trio Concerts Inc. and later by Ashes & Sand Inc.

I would be particulalrly interested in where it flew in this mid-1960s period and the dates of those flights. The only one I know of is a night flight from Lincoln, Nebraska to Denver, Colorado over 12-13 March 1966. I'm not even sure where it was based in this period but, just possibly, Teteboro, outside New York. Any information you can supply would be most welcome.

And, of course, a photo would be great.

Ian, it sounds like you have got all the info from the A-B book. Apart from the names of the US owners, there are no flight details. And sorry, I don't have any photos.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply.

I'd be grateful if you could scan (or photocopy) the relevant page (or pages) from the A-B book. I'll cover any reasonable costs.

If you have it, I would also be interested in the Lodestar pages from the British Civil Aircraft book from the early 1960s. I have Vol.1 but not Volume 2 and, if you're not sure which book I mean, I can dig out the precise bibliographic reference.

I should perhaps explain that I am a lapsed aviation enthusiast (roughly 50 years lapsed) but was very keen at the time. I was an Air-Britain member for a few years (and also in a team that won the A-B recognition contest one year). Recently, I have begun clearing out "stuff" and have come across all this aviation material from, roughly, the late 1930s to early 1960s. I've left the rough notes and the like with the local aviation museum butI'm not sure what to do with the rest (books and magazines mostly).

I've finally managed to get the scanner working and have done the 2087 entry for you. PM me with your email address and I'll send it.
