I really respect the UK for the support they demonstrate for their history. Not just the leadership, but the citizenry.

I just wish that our leaders in the US had a similar pride and appreciation for our country, not to mention John Q. Public!

Ah, the BBMF. Longest Hurricane operators by some margin.

There's something just not right with a quote by Ayn Rand next to mention of the British (and stations East) Royal Family.

bdk - The reasons why are interesting. Currently looking back in Britain is a lot more pleasant than trying to look forward. Also the heritage industry and tourist dollar is of some significant financial importance to the UK. It's notable that the UK has spent a lot of money for many years advertising its heritage as a tourism opportunity, and it's only been about a year that the US has started taxing visitors to advertise the US as a tourism destination.

On topic, it's reasonable that the UK makes a great fuss of the Battle of Britain as the first truly decisive defeat of Fascism and the 'end of the beginning' of the ultimate defeat of that threat to civilisation. It's a pity that the British Prime Minister didn't understand the significance of it - ironic as Churchill is one of Cameron's heroes.

Since his faux pas, he's made significant progress in his historical understanding - not to mention admired a replica Spitfire set up by a Key forum member on Whitehall.

Royalty and military aviation's an interesting thread.

Regards,
