Something for the week: Hangar Queens

Hi All,

(Things seemed a little slow this morning, so...)

I fully understand the nature of delays with aircraft restoration, so please don't feel slighted if you are personally connected with a particular aircraft. This isn't intended to be bashing--just an expression of wishful thinking.

Which warbird (currently under active restoration) were you hoping would have been gracing the wild blue yonder by now?

For me: Mid-Atlantic's P-61. The CAF's P-82 would be a close second, but I don't know if restoration work is currently taking place or not.

Any other favorite hangar queens out there?

For me it's Seafire PR503. Been waiting for a long time for this one. Maybe soon !!! (I hope).

According to Courtesy Aircraft Sales website, Seafire Mk.XV PR503 has been sold. Hopefully she'll carry the RCN colours she did with 803 Squadron. Be nicer still if she was sold to someone here in Canada!

Me too... I'm a P-40 kinda guy but I rather like the P-61 and am eager to see one in the air...

Kind of curious. Does anyone know if there are any Martin Marauder projects going on? Sure would like to see an airworthy "Baltimore Whore".

Kermit Weeks has one (40-1464) which has been airworthy although I dunno the current status.

MAPS had a B-26 (40-1459) but I dunno what's up with that, where it is now and all that. There are some folks here who seem to be familiar with MAPS and there was a thread about that outfit recently...

For myself, I really want to see another De Havilland Mosquito airborne, preferably an FB.VI version. Seeing the CWH get one would be superb. And even though I know it's likely never to happen seeing a De Havilland Hornet take to the air would be amazing!

Curtiss-Wright Historical Foundation's P-40B 41-13297. Has there been any progress on this one lately?

The B-26 is under restoration to at least static, with potential flying status.the fuselage is coming along nicely, and recently, the wings have begun the restoration process. We are all volunteers, and have limited time to spend on the restoration.

I'll opt for the P-61 at Reading. I'd go for the Seafire, but actually would rather see that one NOT flying but on show at Shearwater...after a few test flights and some good A2A pix, like their Swordfish.

The CAF F-82 is still in storage at Midland and I don't know whether there is any prospect of it flying again in the foreseeable future. However C&P Aviation's ex-Walt Soplata F-82 would be one to anticipate eagerly...

Another I'll mention because no one has yet: the CAF's Martin AM-1 Mauler. Thing looks like the lovechild of a Skyraider and an F2G...yeehaw. It doesn't quite fit the criteria though as it isn't in work at the moment. Any A-20 or B-26 would be nice, too...

I would definetly like to see MAPS finish their Dauntless, it would be neat to have one flying closer to home. Mid Atlantic's P-61 and the Air Heritage A-20 are also tow I'm anxiously waiting to be completed. I would also like to see an F-82- any F-82 fly. I don't know if the Air Zoo's Cats would qualify but that would be cool too.
