New issue is out, after another inexplicable delay at the printers

Main features:

PACIFIC AIRCRAFT GRAVEYARD
For the first time a film crew have been able to visit an incredible aircraft dumping ground. In depths of over 100ft. are dozens of stripped aircraft including at least one Avenger, SBD Dauntless dive bombers, several Corsairs, B-25 Mitchells and a C-46 Commando. Some spectacular photos.

P-47 SURFACES
On the afternoon of 13 June 2005, a veteran of some 90 missions was successfully raised from the bottom of Traunsee, Upper Austria. Bearing the legend and well preserved nose art ‘Dottie Mae’ the P-47 will be restored back to wartime condition in the U.S. The loss of the aircraft and what is known of its wartime history is described in detail.

FOKKER D.VII
Arguably the best German aircraft of the Great War the Fokker D.VII impressed the Allies enough to be singled out for special mention in the Armistice. The article looks at the few original survivors before describing in detail four initiatives that will see amazingly accurate reproductions take to the skies in four different countries.

BOEING 40
The 1920s Boeing B-40 biplane was that company’s first commercial success, primarily carrying mail, a service which, up until that time, was controlled by the US Government. This article looks at the history, surviving aircraft and a current initiative to get an example into the air.

NTH.QUEENSLAND WARBIRDS
After reading one of our editorials about learning to fly, Darren Craven decided to commence his lessons. After gaining his PPL he began seeking experience on a variety of types, becoming proficient on the Tiger Moth, Pitts and Winjeel. What he really wanted however was a crack at the AT-6 Harvard and in this report he describes how Nth.Queensland Warbirds helped him achieve his dream.

Wow! Can't wait until I get mine. I have a friend who restored a Boeing Model 40 for the Ford Museum and another who has a D.VII replica.

What a great magazine.
Graham and Jane and all do a wonderful job on this.

Yes it is, full-scale. I think he has a ranger in it. It's located in Bartlesville, OK and it's a beaut...

Well, I picked up my copy of CWD today.

The story about the sunken aircraft was very well writtten and extemely interesting.

Thanks, Dave, you did a superb job of writing it.

Cheers
Chris

PS The magazine never fails to impress, so glossy with huge pics of warbirds and classic aircraft. Had to wipe the drool marks off the pages !!
:D

Hi Chris

Thanks glad you liked it... we are certainly indepted to the Oceanic Group for the stunning images...a tough call not to put in a few more and leave out the text! Made a bit of a contrast to the P-47 recovery in the pages following I thought.

Check your PM...

Dave

Hey Dave,

Yes, those underwater shots are quite something else. Very moody, esp inside the C-46 Commando !!

The Thunderbolt spread was pretty cool (and the recovery story too)

I got your PM thanks, check your email.

Cheers
Chris

Green cowl ..are you referring to the Raftis Corsair ? Rob Mears will know more, but I believe the markings are authentic to a Stateside Training Group...Rob ??

Hi Dave,
Excellent issue as always. Mine arrived yesterday. I was really surprised by the GeeBee R-1 airframe. I was not aware that any of these survived at all. Does anyone know more about it? Where has it been hiding all these years?

Cheers,
Richard
