I really like those air-to-air shots, Doug--especially the one with the dive brakes deployed!

Notice the 30 calibers in the nose, very XP-51-ish! My vote is to keep it natural metal for another year or two, since the EAA isnt going to be selling or flying the XP anytime soon.
The wingtips look slightly different from the D model too, maybe?

2 .50s in the nose, 4 .50s in the wings. Note that they are (correctly) offset, with the port one being located a few inches forward of the starboard one. This was to provide clearance for the ammo stowage.

The wings are quite a bit different to the 'D'.
See http://www.americanaeroservices.com/web ... 00906.html for some good pics of the gun installation...
Beautiful aeroplane BTW. :D

Looks to have been running more than a bit RICH on the mixture judging by the exhaust stains or it runs great on Utah coal.

I saw this bird last week at Marana where it diverted to about 2 weeks ago when it was on its delivery flight to Texas. Something didn't do what it was supposed to do and Steve Hinton was out there making a testflight. Looked and sounded great.
Hopefully it gets delivered soon and will be finished with a nice paint scheme.

The stains in my pics are after 1.5 hours running. It started the day completely clean. The same thought occurred to me but I lack the expertise to state it credibly.

Just a clarification so nobody gets confused, the aircraft in the linked photos is not the Friedkin aircraft.
