F4U-5 Corsairs in action at VMF-513 Flying Nightmares

Wow! What a beautiful Corsair! LOVE the way it looks with that paint. That's exactly the way I would picture a wartime VMF-513 aircraft looking. It looks very authentic and impeccably restored. Great work to all involved!

Here is another x VMF -513 for your research project. (Ref WB Int Jul-Aug 1989). This is Buno 122184 X Honduras AF #605 pictured taxiing c. 1970s at TNT base at Tegucigalpa.

It was flown to the U.S Dec 1979 as N65HP. Perhaps someone involved in the restoration project of N65HP in the US may have taking some pictures and saved some original markings for your research.

Congratulations on the new scheme of your beautiful Corsair. It's is indeed unique & one of a kind in the warbird world!!

Have you seen the ammuntion boxes that fit in the F4U-5 Corsair wing? I presume the aircraft has them (as they formed part of the top of the wing) or is there some other arrangement? I understand the original boxes were colored coded (red and green for the left and right wing) and numbered 1-4 (depending if they were for the inboard or outboard guns). I also understand the inboard ammunition boxes had a black band painted around it.

If the aircraft has them, and when the opportunity permits, could you please take a picture of them.

N-65HP was the first Corsair I saw Howard fly in Hondo, Texas back in the early 80's....

Outstanding pictures! It's great to watch the progress of this restoration. Do you think there is any chance that someone can pull out one of the inboard and outboard ammuniton boxes and take a few pictures of them at some point? From my understanding of reading the Erection and Maintenance Manual for the F4U-5, they can also be removed when the wing is folded.
