If it's the one I think it is, then this Skyraider was impounded for arms violations... it is still tied up in court sadly, with the threat of actual distruction of the aircraft.

That's odd. The pilot said the weaps(functional) were removed and shipped back seperate just to avoid that problem. You have me curious now.

I may have jumped the gun on this one, but I do know that a skyraider coming back from France was impounded by Homeland Security as a "weapon of war" or some such thing. This aircraft was certainly stopped by Homeland Security, but I must check the files to see again whether it made it through.... there was a big discussion about it here on WIX a little while back.

Nice to see a fellow Coastie on the forums...myself, USCGC Evergreen 1982-84....last person to be bombed by a Grumman Albatross (dropped a newspaper at me but missed)....bring on the CG stuff!

Didn't know you were a coastie Mark, that's great! Had some nice experiences at Kodiak with some friends there. You'll have to more fully explain the newspaper incident though!

Steadfast...210' as I recall? I remember the Alert from Cape May when I was at boot camp and I think the Vigorous and the Eagle being based at the Academy in New London while I was there...

The story on being bombed was I was on the Flying Bridge on watch one day (for non nautical types that is the highest deck on our ship) when a Grumman Albatross (still in CG service at that time) flew over and dropped a copy of the New London paper about 6 feet behind me for the Captain to read.....I called down the voice tube to the bridge that the paper had arrived and that it would be nice if someone notified me next time something was gonna be dropped from an overflying airplane so I did'nt get HIT by it.....the Captain then questioned the bridge personnel as to why I was'nt told a paper was being dropped...total silence on the bridge.

Yeah, that looks like her in the 50's or 60's....I have some pics of her at home of her when I was on her as a WMEC medium endurance cutter...I missed the WAGO days (thankfully) as they would be out for months at a time...all of our patrols were two weeks or so....best time was at the America's cup in '83 in Newport....unfortunately we lost the cup, but a great time had by all!
