Sounds like a crop duster such as an AgCat. Only other big biplane would be the Antonov AN-2

Hi all--

June's been a good Warbird month in southern Ontario; besides the Friendly Foes event at Niagara South on the 4th/5th (Spit, 109E, Hurricane in the air together plus CHAA Harvard three-plane demo and GWFM replicas) there was the Father's Day weekend event Soar With Legends at CWH (seen in action: Stearman, Harvard, T-28, Canso, B-25, Firefly, Lancaster, plus a brief engine run by the newly-completed Lysander); then this past Sunday I was in Pickering and saw the Lanc again, eastbound over Lake Ontario, doubtless with passengers up as is now normal whenever VRA flies, in faultless weather. BTW I forget which forum it appeared on, but I think I can confirm that the Lanc has NOT been grounded! That is a sight and sound of which it is impossible ever to tire...long may she fly. Now to see the Lizzie land at Geneseo... :wink:

Russell Snow, of Church Street Station fame, owns a couple of Grumman Ag-Cats he uses to tow banners around the Orlando area. They are kept at the Orlando Executive Airport. This may have been what you saw.

Walt,
That must have been it. I'm about 10 min from Orlando Executive and can basicly see planes taking off or coming in for final, depending on the day. Last year I was able to watch a "Heritage" flight involving an A-10, P-51 and a F-86 from my porch! Thanks a bunch!

I just got my Tailwheel endorsement from that place, flying those L-4's. It was a total gas - challenging but fun.
This was done as a very small, not sufficient, but totally necessary step to building skills to fly WWII warbirds.


And I agree with you about the atmosphere of the place...I loved the grass strip, hangars with old planes, paint peeling off the flight shack, family gathering spirit, and the generally relaxed atmosphere.

I heard a rumor that there was a Fort flying in the vicinity of Taunton, MA yesterday. I didnt think anybody was up here yet.

I looked at the CF & EAA schedules and saw nothing. Who else was touring through here? (It was supposedly a dark airplane, DT or T-Bird ,23Z is already gone to Long Island I thought)

Anybody seen anything?

I lived across Lake Underhill from the airport, on Springview Drive, in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Used to ride my bike over to the terminal and bug the ticket guys with Delta, Eastern and National for stuff. I raided the travel agents downtown for timetables, and still have some of them from the early 1960's.

Spent many an hour next to the fence on Lake Underhill Drive at the SE end of Rwy 13-31 watching the Delta DC-6's and DC-7's, the National Convairs, Connies and Electras, and the Eastern 404's, DC-6's, DC-7's and Electras come in over the fence. They were so low you could almost read the words on the side of the tires. Back then there was a Rwy 18-36 running along the western side of the field, and you could go to what is now Joe Kittenger Park and watch the planes come right over you. This was before Rwy 7-25 was built.

Those were the days when spotting wasn't a problem.

I heard from someone or maybe I read online somewhere that the Orlando Executive was use to train B-29 drivers. I know for sure that it was used to train pilots. Do you know for sure if the B-29 part is true?

Also, heard a radial headed south yesterday, but by the time I saw it it was too far to tell what it was. Looked low-wing... anyone? anyone?

Sentimental Journey has been at the Bar Harbor/ Trenton Airport since Friday(12Aug05) And as always, we are glad to see her. Sad news though, as to fuel cost ($4 per Gal), the CAF will not be flying her back to Maine again for the forseeable future.

Orlando Army Air Base was used to train B-29 bomber crews, as well as crews for a number of other WW2 vintage aircraft. See the following link for some info on OAAB.

I've been told that the MAPS C-47 is destined for that restraunt and will sit outside (you know in the wonderful Ohio weather). It prolly won't be taken care of.

that thing is d.o.a. & belongs to tallichett (i'm a poet & didn't even know it nyukk nyukk) the corrosion is so bad you could crunch her like a beer can, she's not a hangar queen, but a hangar corpse, even though she's out doors at maps. she will still make an asthetically pleasing & accurate display to the eaterie's decor if cosmetically done right. any local wixers wanna meet up for some vittles & brewskies 1 night?? dutch treat of course!! pm me or let me know on the thread. we'll give the place the most thorough scrutinization as to the grub, decor, service etc. regards, tom

When you touch the wing, rust falls off in your hand. I doubt that is will get a cosmic overhall. I think it will just be carted off and placed up there.
