Warbird Information Exchange

Back in 1951/52 I was living for a short time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
My buddy in mischief at the time lived on campus with his parents, his dad finishing a degree in Animal Husbandry. We were around 9/10 years old and we were all over the campus getting into things. We had been in the biological lab lookng at all the specimens things floating in jars of formaldehyde. When we left the lab and went outside we found a P-40 on display in the courtyard. Of course this goes hand to hand with LSU being the Tigers and of course the state's proud association with General Chennault. We crawled all over it. The canopy was open so we had access to the cockpit as well as all the rest of the elements, rain & hail etc. I've since E-mailed the University inquiring about the plane but have never gotten a response.
Is there any way of finding out if this P-40 is flying today. I don't have any serial numbers only the time frame.

The Louisiana Veterans Memorial has a P-40. That may be the one...


Fade to Black...

There's something fishy with the P-40 at the USS Kidd...just doesn't look right. Maybe some psuedo sheetmetal work over the years has altered its lines; is it even real ?

Hopefully we'll have more information soon, I just sent a inquiry to the Louisiana War Memorial museum asking about the plane's history.

I've put the question out on some other forums and some folks who live in the area say that it looks to be a replica. One fella said that there was originally a real P-40 which was acquired by a collector and that the replica was included as part of the deal.

The FAQ on the Kidd site says that the P-40 was used in a movie called 'Solitude Point' and may have been used in the flick '1941'. I've been researching the latter and I highly doubt it was used in that film. But one never knows...

Anyhoo, I too have sent an email to the LVM so hopefully we'll find out what the deal is on this 'airplane'.
