Flypast Aug 04: "Number of Hawker Hinds Found in Aghani

Sun Jun 27, 2004 12:21 pm

They also include a picture of one, credited to Aero Vintage... Looks like Guy Black has had another major find

Believed the remains of upto half a dozen and enough bits for a 'basis for several restorations!"

The trouble is you would need to negotiate for recovery and also they are in a minefield!

OK: How many Hinds did the Afgans actually get?

What else could eb in the same scrapyard in Kabul ?? i.e. what other aircraft did they have before the 1960's??

BTW Flypast also says Iraqi 2 seater fuselage in UK - But not rest! and they have a really good workshop report from AA (pictures of Spitfire VIII MD338 firewall) and Gosshawk Unlimiyed

That should be 'not the rest of the 2 seat Sea Fury" also

Hurricane P3717 has been sold in the UK and will be restored to airworthy condition!

Wow !!! @ the news of Afghan Hinds. I remember that old article of that rare tank recovered by the yanks - aircraft are not as solidly built as tanks and I am surprised (and happy) that some birds have survived enough to be of 'restorable' quality.

Hi all

Speaking of Hinds etc has the Old Warden A/C ever flown in formation with the Nimrod at Duxford or the Fury that has gone back to Belgum or wherever? and has it ever displayed with the Gladiator.

I would love to see photos of any of these occurences if they occurred.

Kindest Regards
John Parker

Hi all--

Terrific news (even if a bit fraught, under the current circumstances!).

If the Junkers F13 is still there by any chance, I'm quite sure CAvM in Ottawa would be interested in it, as Imperial Oil in Canada had two of these pioneering monoplanes in service in the 20s.
