She was abducted by Aliens. How come nobody ever mentions that one? I saw it on Star Trek.

Here is an interesting fact. The Marshall Islands, which were in Japanese control in 1937, issued a series of postal stamps 50 years later, 1987, that showed Amelia's plane on a reef, then on the back of a ship.
What this seems to show is the rescue alive of Amelia by the Japanesese.

If you want to read sometthing far fetched, but still pretty interesting, Google pilot and author Joe Gervais, re his research which was written about in the Joe Klass book on Amelia.
His premise is that the made a succesful forced landing on Mili atol in the Marshall Is, the stamp image shows the plane on a reef mostly intact with the right wing broken. They were rescued by the Japanese navy, NOT executed and she survieved the war in Japan. Mili atol is NW of Howland, not sure how far, but probably within range of her plane, might even have been downwind?

I haven't read the book, two big holes are what happpened to Fred Noonan, and what about Amelia's husband George Putnam?
But Gervais claims that a lady in the N E named Irene Bolam is really Amelia. There is a strong resemblance in the photos, but just to me the faces are not exact, but who knows. A young Amelia seems to have a thinner jaw and face, but one can look at early and late life photos of Frank Sinatra and see that faces can markedly get fuller with age, same with Lindbergh by the way.

Skeptics may laugh at this, and I don't buy into all of it but still a good mystery.

'Vanity Stamps' are issued by many 'Pacific Island' Nations..not surprised they would 'cash in on this...

Ian, ,maybe the stamps are a complete fiction, but there are 4 or 5 of them and not much doubt which plane they show. I don't know of any Jimmie Hoffa or Bigfoot stamps, do you, but there may be superman stamps or some similar?

The Gervais book, says he had 70 afadavits from witnesses that say they saw the plane or Earhart/Noonan. In true conspiracy fashion these afadavits seem to have vanished, Gervais says they were confiscated by the military.

The idea of witnesses to them being alive with the Japanese is a common report in some other books as well. Who knows or if they do perhpaps who is not saying?

Irene Bolam definitely was not Amelia. Her birth records have been verified. For one thing, her nose is completely different. Those overlays are absurd, it's very easy to overlay pics of similar looking people and say- hey this proves it!

Bill...Trying to get my head around that, because a tiny Pacific island 'cashed' in on the myth and issued stamps that they sell to collectors, this somehow gives it credulence... :)

Really when is Jesse Ventura going to do a show on this and put an end to all the speculation?

An investigative report was aired (CBS I believe) several years ago. They traveled to the Marshalls, did in-depth research, interviewed eye-witnesses, and the conclusion was that she was captured and put in prison there. They were taken to the exact cell. They interviewed others there who saw the plane being barged. As I recall, witnesses said she was executed.

You sure this was not in the same vein as the FoxNews presentation on the lunar-landing-was-staged-in-Hollywood conspiracy theory. That show, by the way, offered not a hint of skepticism and skeptical analysis of the claims. Just because it was on TV does not make it true. (Actually, a strong case might be made that being on TV reduced substantially its cred.)

In Australia we take great pride in the efforts of fellow Australian Rupert Murdoch to dominate world media.

We particularly consider his Fox "News" to be of great satirical comedy value, equal to anything that "Monty Python" or the "Goodies" ever produced, particularly in the way its reporters and news desk produces deadpan and apparant serious coverage of what are obvious to most, as ridiculous political or in this case historical points of view.

Beyond its own comedy value, it makes a great "straight man" and "fodder" for coverage by the Daily Show.

It is unfortunate however that some are naive and assume that Fox News is a serious news broadcaster.

Just to be clear, Mr Murdoch is officially no longer an Australian citizen.
