very true on the underside weakness, they were notorious for that. i hope they take that fact if the 1 there working on is gonna be a flyer which would be to cool!!! if she is gonna fly, & basically 1 of a kind rare, i would hope & think the restorers would reinforce / strengthen that weak area. regards, tom

No chance of it being a flyer, DTM are spending a fortune on it just to bring it back to reasonable static condition.

Brazilian-registered Condor.

Lufthansa and then the Syndicato Kondor, operated these, for international flights to Europe. With the breaking of hostilities in Europe, and the sinking of Brazilian merchant ships by U-boats, the activities of the Germans in Brazil and elsewhere in South America were severely curtailed, if not completely stopped, and eventually the Condors went out of service.

Fate and number, unknown to me.

Photographer and ownership, are unknown to me.

The photo shows a Condor at the Santos Dumont Airport, Rio de Janeiro during the late 1930s or very early 1940s.

Saludos,

Tulio

FYI, "Det Danske Luftfartsselskab" DDL operated a few FW-200s in the pre-WW2 years on routes from Copenhagen to Berlin, London etc. It's believed that non of these frames survive today, however a single fuselage was sold to a farmer who allegedly used it as a chicken coot... I'm sure it's long gone by now.

Hi All,

I took the opportunity to peruse the Condor at the website incated earlier in this post. According to what I read that hey it broke apart on clearing the water. Now, after looking at the photo's. It would appear that quite abit of progress has been made in resurecting the pieces for static restoration. Including, if I saw it correctly, and engine/prop assembly mated to a wing section ? Did I see this right and if so...and they have made considerable progress in resusrecting the old girl...just how far have they gotten ? Or am I all wet here in my observations ??

Paul

I have alway's liked the look of the Kondor, not a bad plane really.

Yes, she did have her problem's, undercarridge collapse's, airframe's coming apart, did become a lot worse, as the war load's got even more heavy, the original design was not made for theses kind of weight's.

There was a nice one flown to the State's after the war, tested then broken up, as well as a few other German Heavy's, darn shame they were not kept.

A flyer, I think the cost of trying to make one SAFE to fly, on top of making it to start with, would be impossible with today's liability's in the world.

A nice static Kondor will do me fine, as long as she really doe's look the part!.

Cheer's all far and WIDE :partyman: , Tally Ho! :spit Phil in Oz :supz: .
