The Yankee Air Force / Museum of Willow Run Airport in Michigan recently purchased the remains of an unidentified Grumman A-6 Intruder from Tom Reilly. A photo of the aircraft taken at Kissimmee, Florida in April, 2006 can be found here:

The YAM is trying to determine the Bureau Number of this Intruder and would like to know its service history and how and when it ended up with Mr. Reilly. Any help would be appreciated.

The YAM already has parts from several A-6s and hope to combine everything to create one static display aircraft. A photo of the Intruder already with Yankee can be found here:

It is my understanding the nose/cockpit of this aircraft is from EA-6A BuNo 156981; the center wing is from A-6A (upgraded to A-6E standards) BuNo 152621; the aft section/vertical fin is from A-6A (upgraded to A-6E standards) BuNo 152933; and the landing gears doors are from EA-6A BuNo 156989.

Again, any assistance with determining the identity of the former Tom Reilly A-6 Intruder would be most wlecome.

I live 2 hours from Kissimme, does anyone know if it is still there? Is that really the prop they used in "Flight Of The Intruder"?! That's an awesome movie.

There are two A-6 Intruders being discussed in this thread.

The first airframe, (http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Navy/Grumman-A-6E-Intruder/1469658/L/), made up of pieces from at least four A-6s, has been with the YAM at Willow Run Airport in Michigan for at least ten years. These parts came from the USS Intrepid Museum in New York City and were reportedly used in the making of the movie "Flight of the Intruder".

The unidentified A-6 airframe, (http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Navy/Grumman-A-6...-Intruder/1108720/L/) is no longer at Kissimmee but at a location unknown to me near Wildwood, FL. These photos were taken in December of 2010: (http://public.fotki.com/Kos/members_photo_galle/yankee_air_museum/static_display_aircraft/a-6/). As far as I know, this aircraft was not used in the movie "Flight of the Intruder". I do not know why portions of the canopy are red.

I hope this clears things up! I am still looking for the Bureau Number of the Intruder that formerly was at Kissimmee.

Well, I'm stumped. I really thought I'd be able to help with the Kissimme bird. Went through all of my BuNo references, back to the '70s, and can find no hint of an Intruder at Kissimmee. The only thing I can figure was that it was stored elsewhere, moved to Kissimmee for a short period of time, then departed when that mass of metal got moved out. If anyone has a clue as to where it was located prior to Kissimmee, maybe it would show up that way.

There should have been a small plaque on the instrument panel with the BuNo on it (quick ref for the crew during radio traffic), but chances are it was pilfered.

Thank you for your efforts!!! I didn't think it would be this difficult to come up with a BuNo. This A-6 has obviously been in storage somewhere for an extended period of time. The Yankee Air Museum purchased the hulk from Tom Reilly who I understand has not been able to furnish an airframe identity. I do not know how, when or from whom he acquired it. Our people have checked the parts over in vain looking for an ID.

The first seven pictures are of the A-6 Intruder that has been with Yankee at Willow Run Airport in Michigan for at least ten years. It is made up of parts from BuNos 156981, 152621, 152933 and 156989. The other aircraft in the Florida photos is F-101A 54-1443.
