The B-29 restoration team installed the landing gear on "Doc" recently
and moved the historic airplane to a new hangar Wednesday.
This move is another step toward completing the restoration project .
More than 60 years after the last B-29 Superfortress rolled out of the Wichita factory, "Doc," the B-29 undergoing restoration, received his landing gear and is moved to a new hangar for final assembly.
Boeing employees along with about 50 volunteers celebrated their progress and moved "Doc" to a final production hangar.
"Doc," serial number 44-69972, was manufactured by Boeing Wichita in 1944 and delivered to the United States Army Air Forces in March of 1945. "Doc" has four 2,200-horsepower Wright Double Cyclone engines. It took a crew of 10 to fly the plane.
"Doc" is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortresses built at Boeing Wichita.
