And that's one point, many time an aircrew or ground crew reenactor / living historian will add the extra touch that sets the aircraft apart from others.

It's not for everyone. One must have a passion and love of history to dedicate yourself to the displays and reenactments.

the bucks don't hurt either. $$$$ repro gear, let alone vintage gear ain't cheap!! $$$ amazing how much is being re-produced now, including alot of japanese gear. you also have to factor in travel, lodging, meals, party money ,...... misc, & on.

I agree with you on that one! We did our 27 hour drive to Terra Haute and of course I think we hit every antique and surplus store between Phoenix and Terra Haute!

I wish MAAM in PA would go all out and make it a History weekend and go later than WW2. Would be nice to see some Korean and Vietnam era stuff. I am slowly bringing my WW2 stuff up to par but the only reason that is going as well as it should as I am trying to do Korea and basically it was all the leftovers. I could go as a WW2 mechanic at some point...............maybe someone would let me ride out on the wingtip on the taxi out

I enjoy the reenactors, especially the guys I've met at Oshkosh and the ones at Thunder Over Michigan.
The guys at EAA were very spirited and fun loving. Once they found someone in the public that looked like a twin for Churchill, and they outfitted him and brought him around the area. It was great, I wish someone would post some photos from that day with him. He seemed to enjoy it also.

I don't worry if the uniform or the age is exactly correct. I probably wouldn't wear a Gestapo uniform, especially in the Detroit area where there is a large Jewish population, and some who survived the Holocaust. However I don't see anything wrong with wearing a German soldier uniform as part of the reenactment, or if flying a Me 109. If not, it would be like saying you are going to reenact the Custer Battle, but no one can dress like an Indian, or no one can dress like an attacker unless they really were a Sioux or Cheyenne. That's nuts.

BIG $$$ is right. I, easily, have $6K invested in authentic and repro WWII uniforms and accoutrement. Mrs. Mudge's and mine. Hers are authentic 'cause it's easy to find real stuff in her size. I've got authentic stuff that's not "size" critical but the Class As are, as you can imagine, all repro. There just weren't any guys my size in WWII. I've got some stuff that I've never worn to a reenactment. A beautiful pair of RAF flight boots (repro). I just might break them out at this years MAAM.
(Anybody wanna' buy a repro seat pack 'chute? )

It's a history lesson and lets people see what people wore back then.

This works for anything to do with history......living at anytime can have reenactors. I participate in a Living History Show with our MV club and there are people there dressed to show the daily life as a Vermonter from the 1700's on up!! Well, wars are apart of that history. As bad as war is, it still needs to be told and preserved. One of the largest Antique auto carshows in NewEngland has a contest for attire with your vehicle........Our club goes into great lengiths to do this now and it is well recieved as "history".
