19th July 2010 ..... the day of the days

Marc "Leon" Mathis, highly concentrated

Image

final checks with Juergen

Image

Image

"Prop free?" "Prop free !!"

Image

taxiing to the maiden flight

Image

"last chance" .....nothing to hear .... only the ASch82T hammers... what a sound but everyone strained

Image

here we are, here we go

Image

left wheel almost in the air

Image

airborne

Image

first pass , everyones really happy

Image

second pass with a wonderful break .... "Leon" and the Focke Wulf , great

Image

Image

STOP BREATHING :D final approach and touch down

Image

Image

Image

At this second I think Juergen was the happiest man in the whole world, his baby flies !!!!

Image

taxiing back

Image

Image

Image

..... that the way it looks when Marc "Leon" Mathis is really happy !

Image

Image

Image

After the flight short debriefing. Everything went perfect. Marc is happy with the plane, some finetuning only.

I asked Marc : "Marc, anything important while the flight ?" Marc:"everything perfect, but no Spitfires around ! " What a pilot. Minutes later Achim asked Marc if he wants some water, it was a hot summer day ..... marc : " WATER ???? No, I have enough from water since Hyeres" What a man ! We had some fun that eveening, believe me :drinkers:

Marc and his "black man" Juergen after the maiden flight

Image

the whole team in front of the fighter (third from left Elmar Meier, fourth from the right Achim Meier, white t-shirt "Leon" and grey shirt Juergen Meier).... what a day !

Image

Everthing went perfect, "Millions" of houres, "blood and sweat", thousand ideas, faults and annoyance, luck and fun. Millions of feelings. What a great day, what a success. I am really glad that I had the chance to participate a bit. It was a very special moment.

Image

The maidenflight lasted 11 minutes an 15 seconds. At the same day the team made a second flight. The task was to serve 5 hours in the air, these are the regulations. After 5 hours its allowed to show the bird in the air, for example at an airshow.

... to be continued :drinkers:

There seem to be several Bremsgarten in Germany - what is the PLZ of your one? Would there be a chance to take a look around at some point?

Hi All

To add fuel to the fire, which paint scheme do you like more, the one on "white 11" or the one on "white A".

Thank you for the information, Matthias. I would like to use your thread to show D-FMFW as shown and flown at Breitscheid Airshow in August. At that time still with the four blade prop (Sorry, no good flying pics, my camera just isn´t well equipped enough for those :( ).

I kind of like the look with the four-blade prop. Makes it look vaguely like a German version of a Bearcat.

Great thread. It's fascinating to hear about the modifications made to the airframe. Can't wait to see it here in the States and admire the great work that's been done on it.

That's because the Bearcat is an American 190.

Great thread Matthias, thanks for sharing.

After the maidenflight work began  testingtestingtesting ... what about the temperatures, the new coolingssystem, engine tests, flighttests ..... a hard ansharp program, cause it was planned to show the fighter at the Breitscheid-airshow in Germany. But if you are allowed to show such a project in the air, you have to do many testings and of cause a fix amount of flighthours. After that the government will give yo an okay. Lot of work for Leon as pilot and of course for the whole team. I think Juergen was 24hours a day in the shop to get the baby fit for fun :D checking the valves, new filters and so on...

Image

Image

I got a daily phone .... "11 minutes in the air, everything perfect", "15 minutes, no probs" and so on. It was great to be envolved in that project and they shared all those big moments with me .... it was a fight against the time... Breitscheid was coming

20th August 2010

the phone rings ..... "YEAH 5 flighthours without problems !!!!! Breitscheid we are coming" Remember the airshow took place 21th August !!! So just in time ....... Jerry Yagan gave "green light" to show the fighter over there to the German public. What a gift from Jerry.

At this point, @Jerry , thank you very much that you made it possible that MeierMotors could show that fighter over Germany at an airshow. It was at its best !

Here the pilot Marc "Leon" Mathis ! He does not look angry. When you see him like that in a warbird, he is really very happy !

Flight tests 20th August 2010

... after the airshow season and some testflights, the fighter was undergoing some "updates". Some optimize work at the maingearstruts (suspension), new ignitionsparks (?) and of course waiting for the revised propellerhub an the threeblader.

January/February 2011

Everything is perfect again, the 3-blader works :D the engine roared aftre the winter pause ... what a show

Again Marc Mathis at the controls doing a testflight

What sould I say.... I am happy and very sad in the same second. The project "WkNr002" is ready for delivery to the United States. Perhaps one flight in March an then the plane is up and away, out of sight to me. Happy cause it was a fantastic project and happy that I had the chance to follow the project over several years with my camera. Fantastic moments and some beers :drinkers: Now another man is happy; Jerry Yagen gets a perfect fighter in his collection and I hope it will be displayed at some airshow in the States. And I have a dream : to visit an airshow iin teh United States an see "my" Focke Wulf Fw190 A8/m WkNr002 in action again.

Thats all folks. To finish this journey, just some shop pictures taken in February 2011
