hunters @ mugu

Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:24 am

Just heard (RUMOUR seeking clarification)* two hunters had landing incidents at mugu? The source suggested that one landed on belly tanks and another went off the runway. No injury to pilot. The reason I ask is that the company that owns them was rumoured to be shut down by the Military? does that mean that the US military does not use this Hunter Aviation anymore?

Rumor is false. I have been in contact with someone who is connected and currently on the base. No incident of any kind had occurred.

Greatly appreciated .... I think it is great that these "warbirds" are still active!

Group,

About 2-3 months ago, I was taking a military PT test, at Chanel Islands ANG (attached to Pt Magu). I thought I saw two Hunters fly buy, crossing the flight path (flying N/B, parell to the base) for Pt Magu, and turning west. I have not been able to confirm that I correctly ID'd these aircraft. Although I have several frieds that have owned Hunters (Bob Guilford, Dan Legivina & AL Hansen).

At the time I saw them I checked this board to see if there was any news of the aircraft being in the area. Since their were no post, I forgot about the incident. Since I will be out there this weekend, Maybe I will check into it again.

They are using Hunters at Pt Mugu -- been there for at least a year or two.

I believe they currently have three on-site. Operations start again this weekend. Two flights per day. You should be able to seem them in the area.

6 May: A 1959 Hawker T.58 Hunter jet, N330AX, landed with its landing gear retracted at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, California, USA, suffering minor damage.
