That's the first I've ever heard of the monument being a B-24 wing. Every reference I've ever seen lists it as a a B-32 static test wing. Hard to tell from the photo..I think both were very similar in shape, the B-32 was just bigger.

Would the fact that the "monument" doesn't have an aileron suggest it's some kind of test unit?

Here's a clearer pic. It appears the wing has been covered in sheetmetal (which would also explain the lack of evidence of engine nacelles.)

While browsing the second link to find page 10 and the better photo, I found something that I think all of you missed, that is of equal, if not greater importance! The five Avengers lost in the Bermuda Triangle have been found orbiting Mars! :D

You obviously read it wrong,The avengers are circling Uranus!

Everything I've ever seen says that is a B-32 wing, not a B-24. Which is correct?

That turret is awesome. Looks completely untouched.

Everything I've seen about it, lists it as an outboard panel off a static test B-32. That would make sense, as the static test a/c were built in the Convair facility in San Diego. The article only states that the plant built B-24's, not that the panel is from a B-24.

This was from an Email I got from Col. Rohr
Quote:
Okay time for the truth on the B-32 wing and were it came from. First off yes this is a B-32 wing it came from the back lot of the Chula Vista Rohr Aircraft this was one of three wings that were at Rohr all of them were used by Rohr for power plant testing. Not only did Rohr have B-32 wings but they had a set of B-24 wings and most of Consolidated Aircraft Wings along with B-17 and B-29 wings.

When Rohr was cleaning up the old PB2Y-3R/5H production area they found the B-32 wings this was in the early 50s they scraped one of the wings and donated the other wing for the monument. Back in the early 90s myself and two former Rohr Employees went out to look at the wing and we found the Rohr and Consolidated Data Stamps.
