This is an early "D" model cockpit from a flight manual.

Here is one in color. Steering yokes changed on this one.

Any possibility that this is NOT a B-24D/J but the later PB4Y2?

Could explain the diamond-quilt padding in the cockpit.

That is a "J" cockpit.

Good eyes folks.

I wonder if it is actually a Privateer nose instead of a B-24.

Notice on the exterior photo that the front of the airplane isn't exactly correct for a D. It doesn't have the undercut at the bottom where the D glazing angles aft.

Perhaps this is a Consolidated-style J fuselage with the turret mount missing?

Is this "The Squaw" from the Great Ploesti Raid???

That's what I was thinking..especially when you look aft of the cockpit. If it were a B-24 section that long, it would include the part of the forward bomb bay and wing root (the Privateer had a seven-foot extension there.)

Still looks pretty good, though. I wonder what the final markings are gonna be.

So she is a Privateer labeled as a B-24D with a B-24J cockpit!

Awesome! Ryan? Do you concur?

Is this possibly the movie mock-up that was seen out in California somewhere, thus accounting for some of the inaccuracies people are noticing?

Will still be a welcome addition to the museum. Privateer or not.

Yep, after her nose art was redone and she came back to the CONUS. The photo was taken at the Processing Center at Herington, Kansas during her tour. Here is the entire photo and caption from the Herington Historical Record:

I forgot to add--the PB4Y-2 doesn't have an astrodome.

Agreed.., but maybe they added that in. By the angle of the nose fuselage as it slopes opposite to the nose opening and the length of solid fuselage aft of the cockpit (where is the bombay opening?) it would appear to be a modified hodge podge of somesort.

I asked on their facebook page if it was a Privateer or Liberator and the Museum says it is a B-24D.

In my opinion I think it looks like it could be a Privateer.

A serial number would solve the debate.

Either way it is a nice display.
