I am sure that most of you have seen the other thread about The Collings Foundation now operating a F-100F. The aircraft was making a flight from El Paso to Midland, TX today (2/10/11) to the paint shop. This is where some help from WIX would come in handy.

The aircraft is going to be painted in Misty FAC colors. We are looking for photos of F-100F aircraft number 951 with the tail code of SS. This is the aircraft that was flown by Medal of Honor recipient Colonel George "Bud" Day.

Any idea when it is expected to arrive in Midland?

Fantastic! Why not ask the man himself, I'm sure he would be the most authoritative source on the aircraft. Col. Day is still alive and can probably be contacted through the River Rats organization:

Excellent choice, btw. I've met the man and he is one of the most unassuming, down to earth persons I've ever met. A true gentleman! He's right up there with Bob Hoover, IMO. :)

We have talked to Mr. Day. He will be in Houston for the official unvailing next month. All of the markings are standard, so it is not hard to get it right, we would just like some historical photographs for a display.

The F100 arrived in Midland about 5:00 PM. The aircraft performed flawlessly ! It is now beginning the first stages of repaint.

Col Day responded to the question about pictures: " I didn't take any pictures,...I was kind of busy" !

Dang, I must have just missed it. I work right across the street from Av Souce, but never saw it come in.

I think this is one of the most exciting things to hit the 'airshow scene' for MANY years - especially with ongoing repaint.

Maybe I'll be able to pose for a 'retake' of this photo - thirty-two years later!
