Grissom Air museum C-97 pics

Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:00 pm

I was out at the museum today getting some high res shots of some of the planes for the new upcoming website, and while taking a break to get warm took the time to climb through the KC-97 and explore. It was amazing. I had never been in this aircraft before today.

Very nice photos of the C-97 Chris. I dont think I have ever seen photos of the interior of a Stratofreighter before.

No detail photos of that TB-58? Ya gotta admit the method for getting in the STRAT is classy!

I wish. THe inside of the B-58 is toast. It was damaged heavily in a fire that ended it's career.

Great shots Chris. The interior of that KC is in surprisingly good shape.

How often are you at the museum?

I would say about once a week or so. I try and get out there as much as I can. ROb and Jake are building the cradle for the tail stinger this weekend.

I hope to get up there again next month, but that will depend on my Daughter's plans for Spring break.

That would be great. Let me know ahead of time, and I will get you in a few of the planes.

I suppose I am further along on building a KC-97 than a B-32
Anyone know if Gary's KC-97 cargo door section got saved? It was too big to fit in my trunk.

Love the -97 pix Chris...bringing back so many good memories. Is the co-pilot window staying shut now? Seemed like every week when I went there, that was the first thing I did was to re-latch that window.

Spent a couple of weekends with Richard getting the -102 ready for display. Cockpit on her is very complete as well. Very cool when cleaning out the drain ports in the engine compartment and still being able to smell traces of JP-4!

Oh so many wonderful memories of Grissom and so good to see you take such an interest in all of my former girls :P

If you see Rollie, would you please tell him Darrell said Hi?

No she is never run, but thanks to some new volunteers she is getting some love, care, and work. The B-17 is our Miss Liberty Belle. Yep still outdoors. We are fighting some politics to get it moved indoors. I hate politics.

The C/KC-97 and the B-36 were the ultimate in flight engineer aircraft.... 8)
